Indeed, based on other peoples testing base clock on the 2080 is slightly higher than its sweet-spot for efficiency which (from memory) is around 1440Mhz.

Yeah, I think the slightly better terminology to use would be (1) thermal throttling where temps actively decrease the base performance and (2) thermally constrained where temperatures merely limit the additional headroom available for boost clock. It's a bit pedantic but there is a difference.

Mine is actually best right around the 1900-1950 mark thanks to an undervolt, which is actually the same general range as stock. If I drag it down to "base" it does technically consume like 100-120w instead of 160-180 however it is quiiiiite a bit slower.

Most indeedily, and a lot of people get the two mixed up which only adds to the confusion.

The blog post says 24 hours remaining and was posted 14 hours ago, but GMT time now is 3PM on the 5th of Dec, is there one more day left? The event page says the event ends at 11:59PM on the 6th of December?

You're an event veteran you should know my terrible ability with dates... The event is 35 days, I just did the dates wrong, which is not unheard of... I'm just surprised it took until now for people to notice

I noticed yesterday as I was specifically checking the end time.  I just couldn't remember how many days it was supposed to be and just thought it was a bit strange that it wasn't an even number of weeks.  But then calling it  "Folding month" when the event lasts 5 weeks is already a strange choice that causes confusion, as people just gloss over the end date given they know how long a month is.

In my defence, it was a month for the first 2 years... Then we extended it to five weeks as we were in competition with a German tech forum that was having an event at the same time, back when we were barely top ten. And I thought the sheets looked pretty when it was five whole weeks so I just stuck with it

Perhaps you should change the end time on Post #1 here to 00:00 December 6th to attempt to contain some of the confusion?

I'm planning to do the end post right on midnight and explain the mistake. To make it up to people and as a show of goodwill we are reducing the minimum day requirement to 19 days, so anyone who would have missed out because they thought there was one more day won't miss out

Sounds fair, though I think the bigger thing for next time is to perhaps stop calling it Folding Month as it seems to cause a lot of confusion.  Be curious if there is anyone who didn't meet the requirements because they stopped on the 1st thinking it was over.

not just a catchy name, a HISTORIC name, how many random community-run events on forums actually run for more than a couple years. It's rare, this is the 6th official folding month and the 7th overall (The first one was very informal, just 12 of us doing it. Then I though, me and @palespartan thought, let's do this again it was fun, but actually plan it and I worked with @jakkuh_t Who was amazing and helped get us some prizes and our First WAN shout-out.

I just wanna say that the (MBL) World Series is a competition that is exclusively American(as in the area of North America, not the USA)... Yet that works great, the name stays, for posterity if nothing else

But that's a completely different context, the name being misleading has no real consequences.

 

Its just personally, it really gets under my skin when a name is misleading, even if its clarified later.  Ultimately its not my call and its not like I'm going to lose sleep over it, but maybe add the dates to the title too next time?

I get the fondness for the name but if even one person is confused by it then its a concern.  Though maybe just simply putting the start-end date in the title would be enough?

I'm not gonna lie to you, I didn't last night and I'm far too tired for deep conversations. There is going to be a feedback form at the end of the event. If you feel so strongly about I suggest you add it to your feedback if you wanna submit feedback

Bottom line, you want more people to take part and for some bizarre reason at least a few never bothered to read the first post.  Yes its on them, but if the goal is participation then its on us to make key information hard to miss.

 

Its just something to consider so the dates are visible on any page of the thread, no name-change required.
