GPU prices going down due to oversupply and selling crypto cards.

Prices in Germany (3DCenter) have hit a 6 month low and Chinese miners are continuing to flood local markets with cheap, second hand parts. With the wider crypto market in a lul as well, the stage is set for a crash,  making this potentially, the worst time to buy a GPU.

 

My thoughts

GPU prices going down back to MSRP. Maybe if we all wait longer and let it be below MSRP? I can finally replace my GTX 770 with something better.

If they’re good miners, yes.

if you want to make the most money, undervolt, lower power limit, overclock memory, with good vram airflow.

 

 

I agree though, they might be 50$ or so under the msrp, it’s not going to be hugely less than msrp though. 
but I might just grab a mining card or two, just keep them for a bit,one in my gaming system, mine the other for something that's not eth, just keep it for the next boom.

Yep. And smaller miners will probably pick those right up.

Distribute the cards from bigger to smaller miners. Its good for coins anyways, makes sure that they can't get taken over by a single group.

Prices are coming down, but save the balloons and streamers. There's still component shortages, AIBs are still going to charge more than "MSRP" (which was never realistic in the first place), and in the U.S./North America, you still have the tarriffs to contend with. The prices have been going down and the supply seems to be going up, but I doubt anything will happen (at least on the online market) until the end of the year at least. 

 

Also I hope Newegg and aftermarket card makers lower their prices. But from what I've seen, some of them (Zotac for example) have just been raising prices on their own website.

Aren't scalpers using bots to buy any "cheap" cards on ebay and elsewhere anyway? Even if miner cards hit the market, they will still end up in the ends of people who will mark them up 2x to 4x.

If you're hoping for less than MSRP anywhere but Chinese-language areas, keep dreaming. Eventually some of those are going to trickle out to the world, but as anyone who as ever bought something from China can tell you, if it's legit, it's probably low quality, and otherwise it's fake. You're not going to get 3070/80/90's from China. The mustache-twirling evil cryptobarons are hanging onto those and sending them to places they diversified their crypto investment in.

What I expect, in all honesty is that crypto miners are going to turn them into boat-anchors rather than sell them to competition. So it may simply be a situation where the gpu price crashes in markets that were heavily speculating on the price (like idiot scalpers), and most of the miners will just casually offload their heavily used GPU's as "new" by running an air compressor through it and putting it back in the original box.

Lol, not in store where I bought it in my country. GTX 1050Ti for 220€ (more than I paid for it some 4 years ago), RTX 3060 (vanilla, not even Ti!) go for 700€, RTX 3070 is 1000€ and RTX 3080 that I bought for under 1000€ is now 1600€. These are cheapest examples mind you. Some go even 800-1000€ above what I stated here. It's ridonculous.

 

I never cared about second hand market except when I'm selling stuff. I never buy used stuff. This will take some more time to settle down, especially outside US and Germany which are kinda big tech/retail hubs on both continents.

I haven't seen prices decrease from retailers in the US, and I don't have a microcenter so no idea if prices went down there.

My 1660Ti is fine for 60fps AAA games nowadays with the settings in medium/high but goddamn is it loud. That's the main reason I've wanted to upgrade to a 3060 at least. Hopefully the prices will normalize soon.

I guess that depends on supply and demand. Scalping doesn't work so well if there isn't enough demand to warrant the higher prices or there is simply so much supply that they don't have the capital to buy the entire markets supply. I mean great they buy up all the second hand gpus from miners and try and sell them for crazy prices but the problem becomes that the amount of people who will pay that high price is probably alot less than the amount of gpus they would have to buy to prevent the market having affordable gpus. I mean if only 10 people will buy at scalper prices and there are 100 used mining cards that are at reasonable prices then Scalping the 100 cards wouldn't work as they would have to pay more than what they would make from the 10 cards sold at the higher price. I mean sure they can sell the rest near msrp later but at that point the market is no longer able to have Scalping prices realistically.

Largest Spanish e-tailer hasn't really changed their prices much (pccomponentes.com, FYI).

 

 BUT... they do have some RX6000 and RTX3000 stock now, which they didn't a few weeks ago, and they're actually promoting a few cards as "10% or 15% off, limited quantities! RUN AND BUY NOW!" which to me reads as "the crash is coming and we want to overcharge as much as we can before it happens".

 

So maybe, there is hope? the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight?

Prices here in Belgium / Netherlands market are at a 5 month low currently.

 

You can get an RTX 3070 for 850 ish EUR in stock now.

 

I am not sure what the MSRP in EUR is. But the MSRP in USD is $599, which is about 506 EUR currently. Given that you need to increase that with a 21% VAT here, that would equate to MSRP being roughly 612 EUR.

 

So we are still at +40% higher than MSRP. Which is less crazy than it used to be. Price high was 1500 EUR, which is +145% over MSRP.

 

I'd say give it another couple of months and we're down to around MSRP. I think some popular cards (3080) might never get to MSRP, but the lower end cards 3070 and 3060Ti might.
