My thoughts

Friendship ended with Floatplane, now LTT Super Following is my bestfriend. I'm honestly surprised it took twitter so long to have a premium subscription, they haven't seemed profitable at all compared to other platforms. Regardless, I'm pretty sure Twitter is going nowhere and I'll soon have yet another platform where I'm paying for exclusive LTT content.

Twitter is only a solid decade late to building out more revenue streams, but I do have to agree with the sentiment that this is very much a response to OnlyFans. Probably because the Twitter Devs simply stole from a product they're big supporters of.

That's the thing, every, single, payment system out there that isn't an adult account payment processor (which is much higher than a typical one) does not want A-N-Y NSWF content being used, because it's outside their risk model.

 

Like, it's dang broken record that has to be repeated every time some new payment system comes out, much like every time a new social media platform comes out.

 

1. Everyone flocks to this less-moderated or maybe even completely unmoderated system

2. Honeymoon ends, payment processor throws down the gauntlet, throw the porn/webcam models/adult artists/furries/kinky stuff/non-con off the site, or we withdraw merchant services. You saw this first hand even with pornhub, where the payment processors payment network access was threatened and had their arm twisted. Also, every adult site got hit with the same threat. Clean up immediately, or have your card access revoked. (Strange how piracy file lockers are still operating though, and they're sharing actually illegal stuff.)

3. The axe comes down (see Tumblr) and all adult context is excised from sites that aren't explicitly porn or furry sites, and that's it. Goto line 1.

 

People never want to learn, if you want to be paid and also deal with questionably legal content, one of those has to go. Questionably legal content prefers to be paid by questionably legal advertisements that go through layers of resellers and middlemen to disguise their origin and many of these ads ultimately are the same adsense filler trash. Like I've started seeing adsense interstitials on normal downloads lately, and it's like ... are you kidding me... I just want to download the installer for a program, and it only downloads when you click the X on the interstial popup... and the popup doesn't go away. This is how they're breaking your ad blockers now, by making the pages unnavigable if the ad doesn't appear.

 

At any rate, Patreon is likely going to have to excise all the porn on their platform sometime soon, for largely the same reason every other platform has, they'll likely want to roll out ads or something else that will make their platform even less useable than it already is (they're proposing subscribers to pay a year in advance, rather than monthly now.) 

 

So Twitter just happens to be in the right space to take that, but they likely also haven't learned the mistake Patreon made about making subscriber content pay-first, and un-scrapable. So piracy sites for Patreon content exist, hiding behind cloudflare.

Not really, there was other ways. Also i think most of the followers use facebook
