TikTok has a new competitor: Zynn, a nearly button-for-button clone of TikTok that differentiates itself with one key twist — it pays users to sign up, watch videos, and convince others to follow suit. The app launched at the beginning of May, and as Mashable noticed, it’s now the number one free app in Apple’s App Store and in the top 10 on Google’s Play Store, too.

Zynn is fully a TikTok clone. The core interface is identical, and both are oriented around watching short portrait-orientation videos. The big distinction is a countdown timer with a dollar sign in the middle that hovers over every video on Zynn. As you watch videos, the timer fills up and gives you points, which you’re supposed to be able to redeem later as cash or gift cards. I haven’t tested to see if this works, but a couple of people have posted YouTube videos showing payment receipts.

Zynn’s creator, Kuaishou, is a well-funded startup that runs one of the biggest video apps in the country. The app is second only to Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. Kuaishou used the same technique of paying viewers to grow in China, according to the report. The company ultimately makes money by selling ads, so long as it brings in more money than it pays out. So I don't know how true this is, but it seems as though a TikTok competitor is paying people to watch videos. People watch videos in exchange for points which they can cash out. It seems true enough for the verge to report on it. Original article link is at the top of this post.

 

I don't know how economical it is for a company to do this, even if it is true. Maybe soon all platforms will allow monetisation of content (Yes I know this isn't monetisation, but they will probably put ads on there, need to get money from somewhere)

Could be that they are working with some venture capital and are looking to get big and bought out before the money becomes a problem. Good ol' silicon valley model.

We all know the motto "if the product is free, you are the product". Now the question is, why should the people selling the product (you) get it for free? 

In the end, views are one of the raw materials in their business model...

Alright, time to make a bot that will "watch" all the videos for me.

So after some investigating it pays you every 20 seconds roughly $0.006 and randomly amounts ranging from $0.04-$.12. The timer stops after you watched the video start to end so you need to keep scrolling in order to watch. You get $1 by signing up and up to $120 if 5 people use your referral code. It cashes out directly to Paypal or you can buy giftcards. I think I'll just hook up a small motor with a fake finger to scroll every 10 seconds on all my old phones and it should be a nice background way to make money. I have 6 phones I can use so I can cash in on the referral and make $0.03 every 20 seconds for however long the app exists. On top of my Brave browser VM farm I should now be making more than I would if I was mining ETH currently. I'm also probably only using 45 watts of power total.

So I don't know how true this is, but it seems as though a TikTok competitor is paying people to watch videos. People watch videos in exchange for points which they can cash out. It seems true enough for the verge to report on it. Original article link is at the top of this post.

 

I don't know how economical it is for a company to do this, even if it is true. Maybe soon all platforms will allow monetisation of content (Yes I know this isn't monetisation, but they will probably put ads on there, need to get money from somewhere)

 

 

I wouldn't touch an app like that with a ten foot pole.

 

Either they're dumping capital to gain marketshare, which is short term at best, or there's something much more nefarious going on - and the revenue they're paying you with is coming from something like selling your data en masse.

If you can others already have. I wonder how much of that “#1” is actual live people.  Not that the company would care.  The standard monopoly model predates the monopoly game, and has been the same for a hundred years: establish market dominance first at any cost, then squeeze the customer to get it all back plus a bunch more.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

They’re still in the attempting to create market dominance phase.  Botnet stuff would happen during the squeezing phase.  They’re probably not doing it right now, but it doesn’t mean they won’t or can’t.

I mean, with the amount of money the Googles and Facebooks make, there is plenty of room for them to pay users (maybe not much, but something) and still turn a profit.

 

Now, I don't have a reason to trust the business plan of this particular platform I never heard about, but generally speaking free market and competition (to the extent they operate in these markets, something the aforementioned companies will try to argue is true, but debatable) should imply that eventually new entrants will come offering a better deal, and forcing incumbents to match them or fade out. We just gave the "pioneers" of the industry basically free real estate, because we as users didn't know any better. Some will try to argue that they are "paying us with content", but they aren't, the content is provided by the users. It's the same level of ripoff as academic publishers :P

So I don't know how true this is, but it seems as though a TikTok competitor is paying people to watch videos. People watch videos in exchange for points which they can cash out. It seems true enough for the verge to report on it. Original article link is at the top of this post.

Why even do that? There’s an android phone VM.  Even easier to fake the phones if you can program them to do stuff.

you could run a VM but I'd bet they are smart enough to pick that up. I'm sure with work you can make an android VM not look like one
