If you buy brand new yeah. I bought my 2016 f150 in 2018. It had 40k miles on it and looked brand new. Was owned by a military guy that got sent to Germany and so he sold his truck. I paid 35k for it. Kept warranty and all that. Plus I got it from a dealership, so I was able to extend the warranty. I got 6 more years of that.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

I got this for $5K because buying from your dad perks lol. Has the good ole 4.6L SOHC Modular too which by all accounts are very reliable. This current engine has around 75K miles on it, mebbe a bit more (OG engine got oofed by swallowing a bit of plastic then having some bolt broken during an attempted repair or something, so it wasn't really the engine's fault ?), truck itself is almost to 190K. Has gone across the US 3 or 4 times when it was my dad's, brother used it for his work until he upgraded to an F250 and now F350 because it just doesn't have the power for the (often offroad) towing he has to do a lot. I use it mostly to commute, and take trash for peeps and grab stuff from Lowes and the usual things you can do with an actual bed. Tis quite nice to just be able to throw stuff in there.

Also it's a double nice because not only is this my favorite bodystyle, but it's the exact spec (4x4 XLT with the SuperCab, 6 1/2' bed, and V8) that I like most ?.

I'm not sure where you're at, but most of our dealerships in Alaska do that. I bought my Ford at a Chevy dealership actually. So for the next year, I can go to either to get warranty work done. After that, I have to go to that specific dealership for warranty work. With where a lot of us live it's just sort of..common... I suppose. Same with dealerships putting in non OEM lift kits, block heaters, battery tenders and heaters, oil and trans pan heaters etc.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

Oh yeah, I believe it's a truck-tuned version of the EcoBoost in the mustangs? Same displacement but I don't know if it's dual turbo or not, probably a similar engine at least. My main beef with the new rangers is they're only a little smaller than F150s. Though I am used to my F150 and all the older ones I see around (I live in TN, there are a lot of older Fords and Chevies and the like running around here), the new F150s are also larger than their predecessors.

I drove a beat up 2000 Ranger with the 4.0L V6 for a while though, was a fun ride just beat into such a state by the people who had it before my fam that it kept having stuff break.

My old daily in the background

Yas, for the longest time I wanted a Mini Cooper, but couldn't justify the cost and smaller size for my needs. It would have been a city slicker / fun to drive vehicle more than an actually useful vehicle, but then again, they do make the S Clubman (for a whole lot more money) so maybe that's what I'd look into if ever considering one again. Either way, really nice ride you have there.

Fun to drive does not mean uncomfortable.  And it doesn't mean anyone is discontent.  The Focus RS does everything a daily driver should, but can also move at mind-bending speeds.

There are a couple of people at my work who drive a black and a blue Ford Focus RS, and damn rights they look sporty, go fast for their class of vehicle, and yet still maintain daily driver status. On top of that, there's a reason these vehicles make it into some car video games - you can tune them out the wazoo if your heart desires.

So no I'm not shitting on anyone's car here, I'm shitting on their poor decisions. I expected a smarter crowd of people, especially here on the LTT forums which is generally full of intelligent folks. There's definitely some of that here in this thread, some well thought out rides. Not much of it though. I was surprised and disappointed to see how much of this community is just your run-of-the-mill "ricer kids". The crazy thing is, most of them are probably not even younger than me.

If your budget for a car is 3-5k, that's cool. Mine was too at one point. But if you spend that 3-5k trying to get yourself a race car, yep, I think you're a dumbass and so do 99% of the people who see you on the road.

Oof, that's not very nice at all, but if you enjoy making enemies in life I suppose it's fine to call people dumbasses, unintelligent, and stereotypical names, in addition to attempting to steer others the same direction. To be clear, everyone is indeed entitled to their own opinion, so feel free to continue expressing it. Just remember that how you portray that opinion will either earn or lose you respect. Cheers!

Ah yes, tis a shame that only certain countries receive the fancy, better-manufactured models sometimes. :( I remember wanting a Ford Ranger so bad when MCM was flown out to New Zealand to test drive & review one. They took it on a multitude of backroads to test its' offroad capabilities, and even drove it straight up a river because reasons. Ford did bring the Ranger back to Canada in 2019, but it's not the same as the Mazda-Ford collaboration BT-50 model sold in the Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific regions.

Here's a 2002 Tacoma. It's the one behind my truck I posted a page or two back. I mean, lots of things can go straight up a river xD. Hard to believe he got that truck for free because it didn't run right.... Pulled the intake off for him, cleaned up the choke ports and it ran like a champ... Throttle body cleaner and O ring picks do magic ;)

I never said it's not a quality car. Plus, any car should be hitting 200k miles before any major mechanical issues. Our '98 S70 T5 is still happily chugging along at 237k, and even though it's twenty-two years older than his Rav4, it's faster, pretty damn comfortable, much less of a chance of rolling over if you have to swerve to avoid a deer or whatever, and actually looks pretty good compared to a blobby SUV.

But in all fairness, you probably have one of the only Volvo S70 turbos with that many miles. I knew some people with 850 Turbos and those cars were borderline tragic in the long run. A Rav4 seems like a perfectly fine vehicle if it's what someone wants, many people prioritize reliability over 0-60 times. I wrench on my own vehicles but I won't put up with something I have to work on often. I have a low-displacement Honda motorcycle and a glacially-slow Toyota hatchback, so clearly my choice is made. To each their own though.

Just to note: Even though any vehicle should do 200k before there's a major problem with them, that is certainty not the case. Most modern cars are too complex with too many "features", some of which determine whether the car will drive down the road, to consistently do that anymore.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Highly disagree. Mine has relatively low miles. I see tons with 300k+

The only things that have broken recently that didn't just deteriorate due to age (like engine mounts) have been the secondary air pump (I know nothing about cars and it only took me an hour to install, and if regular emissions testing wasn't required I could bypass it with a ten cent diode) and the turbo wastegate solenoid (techs actually broke it when doing engine mounts, lol). It's a perfect example that something can be fun and reliable.

Your expectations are too high.

Why is OP insulting people because they don't have the car he expected they would have?

For the reasons in bold:

I have no interest in shitting on peoples' cars and I can absolutely respect a car of any price. My first car was quite cheap, and I was damn proud of it, and thrilled just to have a car.

On top of that, zero roads in the US or Canada allow you to legally drive at speeds that are "fun" pretty much anywhere. If that's your budget for a car, I can't imagine what your budget for speeding tickets is.

I would recommend reading the golden guidelines of the forum:
