Vessel acquired and shut down by Verizon

ExplodingTNT

I guest LMG will just move it's exclusive content to another platform now . . . They are smart and have a great staff which will cope up with this soon.

LMG just tell us where you are going to move now!

I wonder if this means Nerd Sports is lost...

According to a tweet from Linus, vessel owns the rights to Nerd Sports.

But because Verizon now owns Vessel, and also owns the right to Nerd Sports, the only hope is that for some reason verizon decides to host the video's somehow?

Unless Linus gets the rights of Nerd Sports, which i doubt.

And even if Verizon decides to host Nerd Sports i probably won't get to see it because well, USA...

I don't live there soo yea...

RIP Nerd Sports?

Ah who cares Linus could just make "Geek Physical Activities and Contests" and put it on LTT youtube.

We shouldn't worry, i think it's nice that this means the LMG are now 7 days of work ahead so they can turn it down a notch for a while. :) Maybe they can do things now they couldn't do before because it would take too much time.

Well, that also means 7 days no new LTT video for Vessel subscibers. Sad things make me sad.

This week has been filled with great news. And this one is part of them.

Finally Vessel is shutting down. The entire platform was build on stupidity.

I got a free 1 year subscription back when Linus announced the scumbagery that they did by releasing almost all their videos on Vessel and hiding them behind a 7 days pay wall. Content that will eventually become free for everyone to watch on YouTube.

Vessel's entire business was based on morons willing to pay for something that was going to be free for everyone but they would get it first if they paid.

Of course it was going to fail. I saw it from the day Linus announced the platform. Too bad this scumbag who created Vessel is actually going to be paid for it. If Verizon hadn't done this then Vessel would've shut down by itself eventually.

I didn't buy into vessel, I bought into LTT.

That said, yes it did suck.

I'm surprised linus hasn't given input on this yet, though I'm sure he will, given it's pretty early PST time right now. Wonder how much warning he had.

Also wonder if he's gonna try the paid subscription to view a week early model on a different platform or something

Why is a pay wall bad? I would much rather pay then have ads on. LTT need to make money and ad revenue is on the decline. I don't think it is stupid to support a content creators or platforms they use.

Nothing wrong with a pay wall. The problem was that they were hiding free content behind a pay wall.

Why is that a problem? The people that directly support LTT and in turn provides them with more revenue get to view it first, How is that not fair? Just be happy they support both platforms.

I don't get why people are calling vessel subscribers stupid. It's their money, they do whatever that wanna do with it. Money doesn't grow on trees, Vessel is one of the reason LTT is LTT. If you don't like it, don't pay for it. Simple. Don't make fun of people's bread and butter or how the audience decides to spend their money.

i just seen that Verizon acquired vessel. i use vessel for all of Linus's channels. Do you think we can convince him to make his own early release site for paid subscribers? i really like getting to see videos earlier than youtube.

Make his own streaming video site? Hell no. That takes a whole other level of infrastructure.

They did a breakdown video of where their money comes from. Not *that* much came from Vessel, but was still a substantial amount, it was 10% (EDIT: closer to 20%) or so if I recall correctly. LMG is set up very well to take the hit though, they've done a great job at diversifying - they're not dependent on any one platform.

I don't care if I can watch stuff before someone else can. I used Vessel because it was an ad-free possibility to support LMG.

Sad thing is that, if LTT uses this to be 7 days further ahead of things, the next week will be a week of videos (on youtube) I've already watched (on Vessel).
