Microsoft's next gen Xbox consoles are codename "Anaconda" and "Lockhart"

Microsoft's next gen Xbox consoles have been revealed as codename "Anaconda" for the high performance next gen console and codename "Lockhart" for the standard next gen console.

 

The Xbox Lockhart is allegedly the successor to the Xbox One S and the Xbox Anaconda is allegedly the successor to the Xbox One X.

 

Wow... these codenames are quite cringey. Especially "Anaconda". For everyone's sake I hope they change it to be something else much more appropriate considering all the other questionable things associated with "Anaconda" (Don't watch while at work. Link is to YouTube).

 

Edit: I should note that I'm not the only one who's noticed the terrible naming. ReviewTechUSA also noticed the really awful naming.

 

Opinion:

But yeah, I do think that having a next gen console launch at $299 and another next gen console launching at $499 would definitely be beneficial to the consumer and I fully expect the more powerful of the two to handle 4K 60fps whereas I expect the lower end console to perform at least on par with the Xbox One X.

4K and 1080p targeted devices. I wonder if Lockhart will have an optional disc drive rather than a built-in one. It's also likely Lockhart is the defective dies from the design, but I wonder if they are going run the same amount of cores in all configurations with just lesser GPU.

It's true, Microsoft have never been great with code-names. I remember Sony used names like 'Project Neo' and 'Project Morpheus' but then they were cooler than the launch names themselves.

I find it interesting that they plan to release two consoles at once. Lockhart couldn't refer to the small box streaming system could it? The device that will make sure of Microsoft's xCloud infrastructure? I assumed that would be a launch system.

Codenames are not meant for public ears, and they are generally random. Like head designer likes snakes l, so he picks a snake name.
