If you have an Office 365 subscription you should be able to do it from here, provided you have purchased Excel as a standalone app: https://config.office.com/

    Alternatively, see here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_excel-mso_winother-mso_2016/excel-2016-standalone-download/b6635909-96f9-47fa-9e68-e5fef6eccfea

Shammikit reacted to DannyBoy312 in What are your experiences with computer glasses? Did they work out for you?
I'm in front of a screen most of the day (IT). I keep night light on in Windows all day and that helps a little but not much for me. Just ordered some 'Blockz' from Zenni optical (their version of blue light blocking lenses). I'll update here if you're interested once they arrive and I give them a go.

As a side note, my Dell gaming monitor does have a 'comfort view' mode that I use that does seem to help particularly at night. Not sure exactly what is being done here but just wanted to mention it.

If you are using Windows 10, you should be able to turn on the night light, which reduce blue light emission considerably. Go to Windows Settings -> System, and you should immediately land on display page. Here, turn on the night light and you are good to go.

*Note: This will turn your screen yellowish or sepia.

I have them on my current glasses. Not sure I would get them again. They make EVERYTHING look like you have a sepia filter on.

But then I have to wear glasses all the time - if it was literally just computer use... maybe. In not convinced they are any more effective than an anti reflective coating.

Shammikit reacted to tim0901 in Cryptocurrency Mining Blamed For Electricity Outages in Iran
    Summary
According to reports from Iranian media and energy industry officials, cryptocurrency mining has led to electricity shortages in both urban and rural areas. For example Tehran - the capital - has seen daily power cuts over the last two weeks.

Insufficient electricity supplies have resulted in the burning of dirty heavy oil products for power, which has caused large amounts of smog across major cities.

Bitcoin mining is a big thing in Iran, thanks to tax exemptions and cheap power boosting their profits. However, mining is forbidden by law during times of peak power consumption, with all cryptocurrency miners required to register with the government. This then gives an incentive to not register, so as to not be fined for mining during those times, as well as to use the lower residential electricity price.
The spokesman also promised that "illegal cryptocurrency mining centres" would be tracked down and fined for "damage done to the power grid". In fact, over 1600 illegal cryptocurrency mining farms have been shut down in Iran over the last 18 months, which were collectively using over 250MW of electricity.

According to estimates by Cambridge university, it is estimated that mining Bitcoin alone is using ~13GW of power worldwide, or ~110TWh per year. This is equivalent to the combined output of thirteen nuclear power stations, or the yearly power consumption of The Netherlands. For comparison: that much electricity could power the UK for 4 and a half months, or the entirety of the US for 10 days.

    My thoughts
As crypto mining gets more and more popular, I can only see this becoming a bigger issue. Bitcoin alone is already using more power than not-insignificant countries, which has significant environmental concerns when people outsource their mining to countries with cheap, dirty electricity. As it says in the article: “massive income is earned by some but people’s share from it is air pollution and power cuts".

Imo, issues like this will only accelerate the race to regulate cryptocurrencies. Just not necessarily in the way (or for the reason) that people have traditionally discussed it.

Shammikit reacted to Eigenvektor in Is there a way to check response time for TVs and laptop screens when the manufacturer haven't advertised it?
It requires external hardware. Unless you feel like buying something for this single use case, reviews are your best bet.

Basically you need to provide input, then measure how long it takes before a reaction is visible on screen. I think there are some LTT videos where they built their own using a mouse, a high speed camera and some LED's to see how long it takes between the mouse being clicked (LED lighting up) and some reaction on screen. There are also professional devices, like this one, but is it worth it? (This would be input latency)

Pixel response time would be how long it takes for a pixel to change between colors. Again you'd need something like a high speed camera to observe how many frames it takes for the pixel to transition between colors.

Or just use your eyes. If you have fun playing the game and the visuals aren't blurry and distracting, everything is fine 😜

    Payphone to PC

The specs are very modest but RDR2 medium quality getting 60fps isn't bad. But seriously made me consider a dedicated GPU. There isn't one that would fit organically, but with a riser I might be able to achieve it.

    Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks.
