According to wccftech, pre order prices have been leaked for the 9th generation Intel Core series,

That would make the Core i9 9900K around $650 - 800 USD and the i7 9700K around $530 - $630 USD. The i9, in my opinion is rather fairly priced, however, the i7 is rather overpriced, due to this:

It's 2018, not 2012. 8 cores and no hyperthreading is literally a big no-no for such a high end CPU in 2018, considering 6 years ago in 2012 we had the likes of the AMD FX-8xxx, with 8 cores and 8 threads (though they were weak cores, it still proves that we're paying a premium for stuff that's been out A LONG TIME now.).

Nah the threads were just ripped off of it, the i7 didn't work out. It got lazy and fat.

Compared to the 8700k, and the 8086k, I think it's segmented just fine for this (albeit quite messy now) product stack. As a coffee lake refresh, Ideally it's a tangible upgrade in some ways and also has some different uses.

CPU prices in EU are not just US prices * conversion.

The price in USD will be almost identical to the price in europe.

This. An 8700K costs €350 (in Germany) and $350 USD, however €350 is around $400 USD. If anything, the new chips will bear out to be around $550 USD and $450 USD.

If we applied your logic then a 2080ti would be $1099 in USA rather than $1199. Note that 1099 is price in UK.

If we apply your logic, £1099 GBP is $1411 USD. Why isn't the RTX 2080 Ti $1399 here in the US? Even if you factor in some average sales tax (since the GB price likely includes VAT), it's close to $1300. Still $100 USD off of being equal.

Btw, the i7-9700k was available in the Netherlands for preorder at €299 today, but the page has been pulled already. Keep in mind that this includes 21% sales tax.

not really. I mean the 6 core 12 thread 5820k launched at like 389 in 2014, and the 6770k 4c/8t a year later for 350 or so I think.

It may sound ridiculously low for an i7 at first glance, but realise that this gen an i7 isn't their best consumer chip anymore, the i9 has taken over the spot of the i7 reducing the value of the i7 chip.

Yeah, the 9700k is not the replacement of the 8700k, even though it may seem like it from the name or from previous generations.

The upgrade from the 8700k is the 9900k.

 

300 sounds about right, as the 9900k would be between 350 and 400 as with all the previous top-of-the-line consumer i7s.

Removing VAT (20%) from $1411 brings t to $1128. Round up, because money.

So it's placement on the mainstream platform is in name only. At a premium exceeding 200USD that of the 2700x, who really cares if Intel's 8 core is faster at this point? Half a year late, and over 60% the price to the 8 core 16 thread competition.

Honestly, I'm not impressed with those. I'd rather get a first gen threadripper that just dropped in price.
