Is Amazon better than Newegg?

ZeRedz

Is Amazon better than Newegg? I've been thinking about buying from Newegg because their shipping is a whole lot better than Amazon's. I went on the Newegg subreddit and noticed a lot of people complaining about Newegg. One guy made a post about how he bought a Seasonic PSU from them and it fried his PC or something.

I've had better customer support from Amazon regarding returns and whatnot so I prefer them most of the time but I won't hesitate to go NewEgg if I can get a better deal. As for the PSU, that's not an indication of the quality of Newegg or Amazon, that's just bad luck.

I use both, I like newegg more because you do not need prime to get free shipping on some items (unless above 25 usd). that being said, Amazon carries a lot of other stuff besides tech. That being said neither of the two is better than ebay with their all store discount, ebay bucks, buyers protection, cheap stuff from china and even better with honey chrome extension

where i am in canada i have to pay a whole lot more taxes on amazon orders vs newegg or most other shops so unless it's a whole lot cheaper on amazon it's usually best for me to order elesewhere.

The guy with the faulty psu? a faulty unit can happen to anyone, newegg vs amazin had nothing to do with it.

I always received all my stuff in great conditions from both these retailers.

I go to Newegg if their product is cheaper, shipping time is usually around the same, Amazon might be a little slower some times, but sometimes lighting fast since there is a warehouse in my state so it kinda evens out.

Have you every received faulty PC components from them or anything? I'd like to know because, like I said, I'm going to be ordering a Seasonic PSU from them soon.

Nope. I bought my mother board, CPU cooler, SSD, a flash drive, PSU, and RAM from them and I never had any problems with them.

Even though Newegg has gone downhill considerably since it became Chinese owned, I still trust it far more than I do Amazon (which I don't trust at all for anything other than e-books). I do avoid Newegg''s Marketplace vendors, however; I trust them no more than I trust Amazon.

I use Amazon a lot (especially since I have Prime). Free 2-day shipping makes things a lot better than paying for shipping through Newegg, but that might be a Canadian thing. On the other hand, I wouldn't necessarily order PC components from Amazon. I'd lean towards a local option or Newegg before using Amazon for PC stuff.

That being said, I've never had an issue with anything I've gotten of Amazon.

Amazon>Newegg

Use newegg for product descriptions/pics and buy from amazon.

Just depends. Newegg is really nice with their prices, but Amazon has better customer support. I've never had problems with either of them.
Newegg has better deals and those deals are really easily accessed.
To be honest if you're building a pc just use both sites to get the best deal possible.

Amazons customer service is way better, how is neweggs shipping better than amazons? When I order from amazon they always update me when it's shipped and arrives at my door through texts.

I only use Newegg to look up the products I'm looking for to get the complete spec sheet for them. Then I go to Amazon and buy the product I want.

Since I'm a Prime member I get free 2-day shipping, Even if Newegg has a slightly cheaper price any shipping that is shorter than the normal 7 business day ends up being like $30 more total. So I'd rather pay $2 extra for a product and get it a week sooner which is why I buy off of Amazon.

Once newegg has to start charging sales tax I'm done using them, since that's their only advantage over Amazon IMO. They ship too much shit via FedEx SmartPost and UPS SurePost, which takes forever. I'm still pissed about when I ordered a cpu from newegg and paid for 2-day shipping and I ended up getting it in two weeks instead because the fuckers sent it FedEx SmartPost.

Well, their 2-3 day shipping is about 30 dollars where as Amazon's 2-7 day shipping is 50 or 60, but I can see why people who live in the US order from Amazon instead of Newegg. Problem is, I don't live in the US.

Basically, my question is which site is better when it comes to buying PC components? Is it safe to say that both websites are pretty good when it comes to buying PC components?

I like Newegg better.

With Amazon, you have next to no way of knowing which shipping carrier will be used, which can result between fetching a package at the nearest post office less than 200 meters away or to some random ass warehouse in the middle of bumfuck nowhere that takes an hour to reach due to traffic. The gamble isn't worth it. (and in the last 5 Amazon orders, 4 of them were at bumfuck nowhere warehouse, I keep hoping, but nope...)

Also fewer chances of getting hit with custom fees with Newegg.

but realistically, I just shop where ever the items I want are cheaper.

That has not been my experience. Their customer service is manned by idiots (or bots, judging by irrelevant responses I get), their pickers pick the wrong itms, their packers do a lousy, inadequate job of packing (I received a lot of broken merchandise before I stopped buying everything except e-books from them), their own carrier they have been using in my area uses morons for drivers who mishandle merchandise (another source of breakage) and often is late delivering (one time, one of their morons dropped off a package at my mail service, a UPS store in a busy strip mall, after hours; it was a bloody miracle it was still there in the morning, although it was found by the store employees opened up).

Sometimes Newegg can get orders wrong, I recently ordered a core i5-8th Gen but got a Ryzen 3. But after 2 weeks I got my other CPU Back. I would say Amazon is better in terms of less hiccups and they allow refunds too.

You can't blame store for faulty stuff. Not if package isn't messed, mislabelled or otherwise looks wrong. They get same stuff from factory/warehouse than everyone else. If there's 1 faulty unit in every 100, there can be several faulty ones in every store. The way they handle broken stuff is what makes the difference. I've had good and bad experiences with this at local retailers (the bad one isn't operating anymore).

If package is opened and sold new, store has some explaining to do. Other physical damage could be from shipping. Shops resposibility is ensure that package is 100% ok when it leaves store. Mislabelled or otherwise funky package could mean that store does some shady business. Like selling noname stuff as brand stuff.

That's obviously not NewEgg's fault. You need to contact Seasonic in that case.

In Europe, it is not ideal to buy from NewEgg since we also need to pay import taxes on top of their prices. (They still ship from the US and don't have a EU warehouse.) This results in their prices being higher than Amazon or other (local) webshops.

This. Also, Amazon is mostly quite hot on deals and promotions that competitors are doing, often keeping them on for longer. E.g. recently, Scan, a company in the UK, lowered the price of the AMD TR 1950X to £650, Amazon did the same, but a week later Scan bumped it back up by £200 yet they still had them in stock.
