Hi guys,

long time no see

so I was checking my electricity bill as "working" from home and noticed it;s a little higher but that was expected then seen the big increase due to F@H lol which reminded me to check here for the next event.

image.png.6b8057beef47127b55c5706d6dcaf43a.png

So when is the next event.. Need to get my computers ready

only thing is ive gone from a big case with great airflow to a NZXT H1 with not so good airflow lol  I need time to get it ready

next event is probably going to be the yearly folding month from october-november. but the specifics are still fuzzy.

also, nice to have you back!

UK weather here has been pretty cool these last few days, but I've been playing F2020 so the only time I'm folding now is when I'm sleeping, or at work.

I'm really hooked onto FS2020 though, its so awesome. I've never played a flight sim game before as I've always thought how boring they look, but now being able to fly to anywhere in the world and with usually amazing visuals it's just superb.

Does anyone know if Folding will be supported on the new RTX3xxx as soon as it's launched?

I intend on getting a 3090 or whatever the top end card is as soon as stock is available

I reckon it might take a week or two, not an expert on the matter though

Thanks, I have asked on the foldingathome.org forum as well and will report back when I get an answer

Response from Bruce from the F@H forum.

Not immediately.

1) Somebody has to tell us the lspci values.
2) It will be added to GPUs.txt which will be downloaded.
3) The GPU will need to be benchmarked.

I expect that in some future version of FAHClient, these steps will be automated.

i doubt that it would really be effective - the xeon phi at best is a 72/288 chip with a 1.7GHz boost clock on a 22nm process.
compare that to the 3990X, which while it's only 64/128 it sports a far higher boost clock of 4.3GHz as well as having a much higher IPC

add in the fact that the xeon phi uses dedicated server hardware that's hellishly expensive and it really twists it in favour of just... not doing that.

also to note is that the xeon phi does not seem to feature any l3 cache, while the 3990x features 256MiB.

better off making a 3990x core with gpu's hanging off of it imo

I would agree that buying them for the purpose of folding would be silly.  But in theory they could be rather useful if there were a bunch no longer being used in a data center or the like.  I'm not sure which way the question was being asked.  I also don't know what it would take to actually run folding WUs on them though.

No that’s fair enough, I get good points out of my dual Xeon so with the massive core counts just took my interest, quite cheap so might get one.

anyone used rx470 according to pass mark that is the best bang for buck card

Shoot, that reminds me I have an old server from about 6-7 years ago sitting in my rack...hasn't been turned on in a couple of years as well...but it DOES have dual Xeons.  Maybe would do alright with BOINC tasks.  Only problem is it's as loud as a banshee.

Hi all:

Just noticed this thread and remember doing this some time back. I have a I5 mining board with 10 GTX 1060's I used for the mining of ETH.  Since have halted all coin things as profit gone.

Could bring it back up for the task. Watched Linus build his server and it was a monster. The rack is in the storage bin but can bring  it out again. Just need a bit of help to get it up and going with their software. It is running UBU 18.04 at the moment.
