Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Today I'm going to change the oil in my dad's 2004 Corolla, but I don't really know what to expect when I see the old oil since neither him nor I can remember the last time he's had it changed... The recommended oil change interval is 5000 miles, and I'm pretty sure he's gone way over that.

since he's prone to missing changes, use synthetic oil when you change it.

looking at the oil itself wont tell you much unless you send it to a lab.

Look under the oil cap (look down the hole and also on the underside of the cap itself) for thick black sludge. If you see that, then make sure he knows he's been going way too long on oil changes. (and make sure he knows the likelihood of having a big issue has greatly increased because of it)

That's about all you can do really.

I can think of at least ONE case where it does.

Thanks for the advice, I've made sure he changes the oil every 5000 miles now. The old oil was actually changed last April, which wasn't as long ago as I thought; he only drives about 6000 miles every year too.

That, I'm fairly certain, is a VW/Audi/Porsche VR6. Not sure if it's the FSI, 3.2, or 3.6 though. Being that it's dual VVT it's likely FSI, possibly the turbo from the Audi TT since it's so badly sludged up.

I currently have a 10yr old 2135ti which is a strong gun, especially coupled with the weighted crank bolt sockets. This new gun uses a different type of impact mechanism that I've been interested to try out. I'll take the chance to rebuild the 2135ti and replace any worn parts inside of it, re-grease the hammer case, new seals and bearings, new trigger valve, and have a new old ugly but very functional gun AND the new hotness as well.

Definitely a VR6 of some sort.  I don't even understand how this happens.  If this 50k miles without an oil change, or did someone use Hershey's syrup in place of oil?

Take a new ride from the lot every day so you truly look like a baller. I’m assuming you own a used lot, otherwise you’d probably specify what manufacturer. Anything with leather (or heated) seats and an aux plug. High schoolers will think that’s been the coolest thing ever. It could be the shittiest civic ever, but if it has an aux cord, you’ll be cool

No its consistantly missing oil changes. You do 20 or 30k on the same oil once it won't fucker up this bad. If you do this repeatedly for  10 years you will run into issues.

but that mobil 1 annual protection tho lel

Metal valve cover so it's the 3.2 VR6 for sure, looks like in a Touraeg or Cayenne, the 03-07 without direct injection. We have one at the shop with...problems...It needs to find a deep quarry to fall into.
