I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

When replacing a slipping clutch disc, is it recommended to also get a new flywheel? How much should I spend on them to get a decent-quality part for daily driving?

I would, it's minimal extra work for lessening the chances you'll have to tear it down again soon after the repair. At least get it properly surfaced. Also with the flywheel off you can inspect the rear main seal for leaks and replace if needed.

you could probably just have it resurfaced at a machine shop and be fine. but you can also replace them.

I replaced mine only because I wanted to go with a lighter one.

If you do go with lighter, I recommend going with something not ridiculously light because it'll be annoying to daily. but a little lighter is ok.

good news: saved the data! also think I know why it failed to rebuild.. must have encountered a URE when 1 drive failed, thus failing to rebuild the array. I learned that RAID is not fault tolerant one bit. if it encounters a URE, then it gives up. This is why it's so "dangerous" (RAID 5's anyway)

even a raid 6 can get dangerous with larger drives.. as the failure rate pretty much stays constant. (1 in 10^14 sectors will have a URE). Is there no solution out there for this? Does ZFS do anything to avoid this?

semi-bad news: replacement drives are a week out. can't do a raid 6 with my nas as far as I can tell. RAID 10 will have to suffice because poverty(lol). Still better than 5 as far as I can tell. I actually have 2 almost new 2TB drives RAID 0'd in my desktop I use just for games. I'm gonna borrow those and the 2 new drives I ordered and use all 4 newer drives, and keep the two old ones in my desktop for games. That 3rd drive that the rebuild failed on is prob still good but I don't want to use it. So I might just archive some important stuff to it and store in a closet or offsite at my dad's office.

@Real_PhillBert

Glad you got the data back!

Dont judge me, but I've had one dead 2TB WD green in my RAID1 array on my main PC for like six months now. I really need to replace both of those with 6-8TB IronWolfs now that hard drives have gotten a lot cheaper in the last year or so.

at least with a RAID 1, if it encounters a URE, you can just try rebuilding it again as all the data is on one drive. wheras with a raid 5, 1 URE = you lose everything.

So this is why im switching to a RAID 10 :) performance will be nice too

Snippy

My favorite time of year is the F1 Car Launches as well as the start of the season of course.

I'm really excited to where teams are going to gain the missing down force caused from the simplified front wing.  I'm expecting some mad(er) barge board and floor designs.
