Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Ford F-150 would cost $3k to fix the exhaust manifold, but at least these guys were honest. They explained things in a way my father would understand, stayed in contact with us, and got in early to put the thing back together for my father to drive to Chicago to trade it in for one of these:

image.png.247dc887336d404ceb4de4b609a67667.png

got it for $13k. No issues, it was well taken care of. One minor accident reported, no permanent damage, not even a scratch on the bumper left. Except the 130k miles, but that's why it was an acceptable price, even in 2022. It's a 2016 HR-V LX. Got really lucky there, seems a decent price given the market, heck, that'd be a fair price in the before-fore times.

They wanted to offer 300$ for the F-150. $300. Why? There was reported frame damage in the past, which was fixed, hence why the frame had little to no corrosion, despite being in Michigan. I replaced the lower control arms on that thing, the spark plugs, oil change, I removed the scent of tobacco, etc. All I did was make that vehicle safer to drive in much better condition. I get that prices are down a little bit from their peak, but not $5k to $300. My father, who can be beyond annoying, managed to get them to raise it to $500, then to double it. Then, the dealership called CarMax and got a $2000 there. I was expecting a $3000 offer, all things considered, and the $300 stunned me.

So instead of spending 3k to fix your car you spent 13k on a replacement?

Makes sense

Yes, for a 5.4 that was going to have a timing chain due soon and 8 broke off spark plugs it does make sense.

Especially if it was just time for a new car anyways. Easily justifiable

I filled up my adblue and changed my oil  this weekend. I’ve already put 9.5k on this touareg. Almost @ 119k miles now. this was my second oil change.

I embark on my 4000+ mile journey Thursday afternoon after work.

i bought a 17” used wheel and a tire that matches the diameter of my others so I have a true full size spare. And the inflatable space saver one that’s pretty useless… hopefully I need neither

yes diesel is expensive, yes it doesn’t make sense, no I don’t care because at I have more freedom traveling by car instead of going by plane. Plus I just like big road trips. This one will be expensive tho lol

and then I get to change oil again after yaaaay

I fully agree that electric cars can absolutely be fun.

Interesting time for me to just so happen to pop in again.

Over the years (since being active here), still been a car and driving enthusiast, and like to actually drive my car and have a good time. Anyone can drive fast in a straight line though, and when most of my time is spent commuting in the city there's nowhere to go fast anyways, I highly prefer having a good nimble chassis that handles well and is fun to toss around.

Maybe something went wrong along the line, but what I actually drive:

Megan Racing coilovers, Ultra Racing Juke rear sway bar, Cusco Juke front LCA brace, Nitto NT05s, and the really low center of gravity - rips corners like it's on rails. A blast to rip through the city, down onramps, and at the occasional local autox events they host here. Needs a bit more power, plan to do the 110kW inverter upgrade next, once I actually find one to buy.

As a hot-hatch owner, the Corolla GR is one of the only interesting cars on the market right now, but it's already a limited production. From my experience anything that's not an overlyproduced truck or crossover SUV right now has either really long wait times (1-2 years) or a five digit markup.

Its nice to see that Toyota finally put some oomph in the Corolla hatch.  I dig the look and it was on my shortlist when I was shopping last year.

But the fact you can't get a normal trim with anything but the 168hp and 152lbs of torque are just pathetic if you're looking for something nicer than a go cart feeling car.

Not gonna lie, that sounds fun and looks nice. I bet it would be a lot of fun in a canyon or on tail of the dragon.

The Bolt by far if you weigh tucking and rolling to escape from a vehicle fire as fun. Otherwise its a toss up.

3k, + the 2k I had already spent on it. At that point, I would have spent as much fixing it as it was worth, and as my wonderful dealership friends showed me, it wasn't worth 5k, it was worth $300.

Bruh go drive one in a tight area flooring it out of corners and tell me that it’s not fun.

you get 100% of torque instantly. Pretty much all electric cars are fun at low speeds

Yeah. They just weren’t designed to do that they are commuter machines

we’ll have more fun cheaper electric cars in time

Just as Miata owners did; through sheer willpower and doing wild shit with a cult following for their small size but good handling capabilities.
