I just keep a google sheet, though I do my logging in Fuelly.  I use Fuelly because its easy.

 

But I later export the raw data from Fuelly so I can model charts off it.

 

Example, I take the data and roll it up in a pivot table by groupings.  So I can run a $/Gallon vs Monthly total $.

 

Blue is $/Gallon.

Red is Mostly $$$ spent on fuel.

 

I do it for budgeting, so I know how much I can expect, and so I can look for trends.

Or I can do Miles traveled vs MPG.  This lets me look for trends in mileage, and helps me track my habits graphically.

But going through the effort of trying to integrate that into an iOS shortcut is way more than I care to do. There's absolutely no point in trying to shove all that info into Excel/Numbers and have it graph it out when I can just use my eyes and look at the raw dumpage in a note.

Hell if I know, I don't use Numbers or Excel on my phone. But even then, the whole point of making the shortcut was to have it automatically shit the results out into an easily readable note. Having to manually add the results into a spreadsheet for a graph I wouldn't even use would just defeat the entire purpose of why I made this automation in the first place.

My weekend warrior is averaging 13.3MPG.  Lulz.  I suppose that's what happens when I cannot keep my foot out of it, and shift around 3500-4500 in daily drive.  And when people annoy me, I drop down a gear or few, hammer down, and don't let off till the it the shift light blasts my face with laser red lighting at 7200rpm.

 

There is nothing quite like the tsunami of torque that comes on from 4000rpm and carries all the way to the redline.

 

Next engine will have an even higher redline.  I want to build either a destroked 400ci sbc with a set of Profiler heads, or a destroked LS7 as the replacement.  Looking for 8500rpm-9000rpm.  But that's big money to build that.  One day, I'll do it. And it will be glorious.

 

Destroked LS7 at 8500rpm sounds like this:

My ownership MPG went from 23.7 to 23.8 today. I bought some drinks to celebrate, but the extra weight brought it back down to 23.7.

Just got some new wheels for the Corolla! These are BBS Moda M1's and I'm running a reverse staggered setup for autocross, 16 inch rims with 225s up front and 15 inch rims with 195s in the rear. I'm really liking how these tires feel, since they're both wider and lower profile than the stock ones. The rear wheels do look kinda funky though...

6000-7000rpm is super easy.  7000-8000rpm has become much easier in today world. Even 8500rpm can be done without a stratospheric budget.  But you gotta pay some love to the rotating assembly and valve train.  Sustained 8500rpm and above?  Now we are getting to some pretty exotic and lightweight parts.

Its why I've become so keen on coyote motors. High revving v8s sound great, and they do it out of the box. High revving LS motors when sorted are amazing. I am sure I have linked this like 5 times in here, but this build is one of my favorites

 

 

Too bad Matt kept letting off because of the shifter noise. I understand why, but I'd still like to hear how far it really goes.

The short-block and rotating assembly are relatively straight forwards.  A forged crank, rods, etc.  Nothing super expensive or exotic there.  strong fasteners.  The key is in the engine builder's expertise at balancing and assembly.  

 

The expense comes in the form of the valve train.  Stability must be maintained at all costs.  This requires Jezel shaft rockers, lightweight parts, titanium is prevalent.  Pushrods have to be thicker walled to resist bending under load.  The spring effective spring rate of each of the 16 valve springs on my engine is 720lb/in, and I have about .570" lift.

It's a 440. It's pretty much a Renault 9 underneath. That said, it's been going strong since 2014 with only minor issues, drove it from 94500km to 256000km by now. Easily the most reliable car i ever owned.
