I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

So much for owning a relative new Volvo V70 D3 from 2016 🚗

edit: Needs to change my oil too, seeing as my mother dont want our driveway with oil.. Wonder how much they wanna charge for that too haha.

While this would be an actual useful suggestion, those do have the tendency to make the visor they're on go flaccid after a bit. Also kinda uggo if we're being honest here

I'd actually done some looking while I was at work earlier and I think one of these (or similar) can fit into my stupid ass useless glovebox and should be plenty capable of holding whatever else I'm going to end up burning. I'll just have to see if my dad has anything like it since there's no point on buying one if he's got something really close in size/capacity already.

Pretty sure you can swap the spring in the sun visor out if you really wanted to.

Yeah I have an old CD case like that with idk, 50+ disks in it? Super compact.

Oh fuck off. I don't want my visor to start falling down and I found an option that would work. If you notice, here I gave my feedback on what was actually a valid potential solution to my storage issues, not shooting down assbrain ideas that I spend significantly more on a head unit than I did on CDs because hurr durr optical media 2001 moment.

Yup, compact is the name of the game with this glovebox. Whatever clown designed it decided there should be a static shelf pretty much entirely for the manual (and whatever you put with it) which doesn't move with the glovebox. So you have pretty good clearance with it open, but drastically less when you go to close it. I really don't think there's more than like 3-4 inches of clearance when it's closed.

Ideally whenever I get a chance and the weather isn't ass I should dick around and find out just how much vertical clearance I have to play with.

Unless you're offering to send over ~350 bucks for a head unit, this is where I'm staying. It's almost like I'm living my best 2005 life for a reason.

Can your head unit play mp3 CD’s? If so you can just load up MP3’s on a disc and generally you can fit a lot more on one disc because of the magic of compression

If I'm dropping money on a head unit, I'm not gonna cheap out on some shit that looks like it's from 10 years ago, I'm going to bring my car up to speed and give it CarPlay (also doesn't help that a regular ol single DIN unit would look completely retarded in my car). Don't remember what the hell it was that I was eyeballing, but I want to say it was Pioneer and it was more or less the best you could do for the money. Could be mistaken since it's also been like 3 months since I gave enough of a shit to look though.

I bought a Chinese CarPlay head unit from eBay for $80 for my civic and it worked fine for the 2.5 years I had the car lol. The volume knob was just starting to give me issues

Btw the civic I donated sold at auction for $1150

they brought that thing all the way to Florida before it went up for sale.

how did they get anything from that sale after paying someone to move it all the way there? Makes no sense to me lol

I just found one of these still with all my CD's from the early 2000's in it while cleaning out my old car.

Just bought a new car last week. Took possession and have already put 2000km on it from random driving. I was barely driving my old car anymore because of boredom.

I'd rather not. Buddy of mine got one of the good Chinesium specials and the UI outside of Android Auto sure doesn't look that great. Boot times are also complete ass but I suppose that's to be expected with one of those. Then again, he also got it with the intent of running said vehicle into the ground racking up a shitload of miles during college which I don't really plan on doing with my car.

Not the one on my trim since I've got the ol' base model CX. I wanna say the CXL's can do MP3 CDs but navigating them is pretty not-great since you've only got the little screen and buttons on the radio to work with. And as I've said before, if I got a radio with MP3 CD support I'd also have a 3.5mm jack at that point, but I'm fairly certain those like to fall off like the ones in Silverados.

D2 is just more economy i feel..

Ive read about EGR reset and EGR disabling to get more power but honestly.. Sounds completely illegal and knowing norway im not gonna do that shit.

Probably want to tune it to stage 1 if i can.. But i need money which the car has sucked out of me twice in 2 months now so, stays a dream.

Im getting 7liter per 100km or 0,70 pr 10 km so.. City use = NOPE, NOPEDY NOPE.. Long distances: Hell yeah.

I have no idea if this is a newer VEA or what engine but it was my dream car ever since i got my first volvo 850 in 2012 that got crushed/sold in 2020.

If it wasnt automatic, this would have been THE dream car but.. I've warmed up to automatic long since when i was stuck in traffic and i paid 300000NOK (33700$~)

in 2 and a half years so.. I really want this car to survive for as long as i can. First thing i want to do is put a better exhaust at it as i do have sport-mode or rather..

"fake-manual/sport-mode" on the gear-shifter.. Gives it slightly better handling i guess/think, or i hope haha as ive had quite the fun in it.

Was considering trading it in for a pickup but now that i have a dog.. I love having space.. But might do it in the future 🙂

Norway is an expensive place for a car and honestly im just glad i can afford to drive this car while about 70% of every other friend has a beater from the 90's to the 2000's..

(All tho they have manuel and it runs on gas.. Damn if it wasnt for the gas prices in norway spiking and just getting more expensive 20NOK for 1 LITER (GAS, NOT diesel) is insane.. and its supposed to be raised 40% according to our policitians 😞 🙃)

Are clutch delay valves common in modern manual transmissions? I took the valve out of my golf last night and the car is so much easier to drive now. Really doesn't make sense to make a car drive objectively worse from the factory.

Yeah so the D2,D3,D4 and D5 denote the power output of the engine. Higher the number more power it has... so also the fuel consumption should be lower on a smaller number
It used to be that the number is equal to the number of cylinders but that ended quite a while ago.

I wouldnt do any EGR deletes as i know how strict car laws are in norway.
By EGR issues i actually meant that at least the D4s had quite common issues with the EGR clogging up. i dont think the D3 had the issue as it was a lower power model but still might have something.

i cant get worse fuel economy than 6.5l/100km in the city with my D2

VEA means Volvo Engine Architecture. Basically what Volvo called their engines when the Chinese company Geely bough Volvo from Ford. They are redesign of the previous Ford era Volvo engines, just with new tech to make them more economical and emissions friendly and supposedly ended up not as reliable.

The sport mode on the gear shifter should change just how the gearbox acts at least thats how it is in my V40. I do have to admit its a very fun car even without a manual gearbox.

I genuinely am surprised you went with a diesel knowing that its Norway. Heard about it being very strict emissions wise.
Fuel in general will just get more and more expensive as time goes on.

But they don't. If they're supposed to slow down the slave when the pedal gets released too quickly, they fail. At least in my golf, all it did was make it very difficult to shift smoothly and quickly at the same time. I bought the car in March having maybe driven stick for 200 miles, put 5000 miles on it since then, and it really just felt like I was driving in hard mode for no reason. I don't get it.

i cant get worse fuel economy than 6.5l/100km in the city with my D2

Diesel is still 2 to 4 kroner cheaper in gas than normal bensin/gas in norway.. Also gas prices being as there is.. Not going for petrol any time soon.

Outside our capital having some diesel restrictions.. There are no restrictions elsewhere and i rarely take my care to the capital.. And even if there are restrictions and i have to pay double the toll.. Fuck'em, i can pay it, i couldnt give less of a shit.

Trying to get my car to go for 6,8 or atleast 6,7 as thats what it was on when i picked it up 2 hours from home 🙂

Cool to learn more about VEA and the architecture behind it, glad they sorted the emissions out 🙂

It shouldnt be that suprising anyone is going for diesel, its often cheaper.. or atleast it feels cheaper when petrol is a tad more expensive than diesel novadays.

Norway is actually one of the countries ive read that has the gas prices lower than what we earn.. But if you jack it up any more, common people would rage i bet.

And its a bit fuckery when the place i live at has usually 12NOK to 16NOK as avarage..

While a bit down south (45min~ drive) has 11NOK to 13NOK prices..

Barely a dollar difference.. BUT: It is a great distance when it comes to the price 😕

Used to own a Volvo 850 that ran on petrol, it was fun but expensive..

Now im aiming for a 940 or 850 if i can find one running diesel..

(If they even came out with it.)

Life has gotten fucked over twice from the car but the first one was service and now the injections nozzle so..
Only uphill positivity from here i hope.

Super common, supposed to make it easier on noobs.

Interesting I looked them up, they apparently make clutch engagement speed consistent, nearly identical every time no matter how quickly you mash or let go of the pedal.

Which I guess there’s an argument that it makes it easier to drive comfortably. Or like you said for a newbie to learn how to smoothly engage the clutch without learning really

But yeah I could definitely see that being an annoyance for a veteran clutch operator

I agree, its really annoying driving one and is why I try to avoid modern manuals. Fortunately my Mazda didn't have one, at least it wasn't noticeable. That was a 2010 Mazda 3.

It’s weird, in practice they do the opposite. When combined with rev hang from modern engines, it’s much harder to shift smoother and removes a lot of feel from the clutch. On my golf you could either shift smoothly or shift quickly, but never both.

Most places are trying to ban diesles for years and now trying to also ban petrol cars. to me its surprising even though i have a diesel car of my own 😂

I still want a 940 but i want a turbo petrol they are good RWD cars.
And yes both the 940 and 850 had diesels VW D24 6 cylinder and VW 2.5 TDI 5 cylinder respectively
