New smart urinal will show you Advertisements while you pee

The future of the toilet is here and yet I have a feeling nobody but advertisers and urinal manufacturers will like it.

 

I suspect after this comes out you won't be in too much of a rush to go to the bathroom anytime soon. This Smart urinal will show you advertisements while you pee.

 

No word on pricing or availability.

 

I have a feeling this'll be used in malls and cinemas. Two places which keep on complaining that they're running out of revenue sources.

 

Anyhow, this is the company's pitch:

Somebody on Twitter who actually encountered this IRL posted their response. It's been translated to English.

You have to agree to the terms and conditions of using that urinal, and watch the ads and it'll open allowing you to pee. 

It will also use a camera and machine learning/facial recognition to determine if you're watching the ads and if you are then it will continue to allow you to use the urinal but other equipped urinals at other restrooms would know to not allow you /s

Starbucks better not have this kind of urinal ever. I can understand something like McDonald's adding this kind of urinal but for the love of god, not Starbucks.

Haha, not too surprising. It looks too clunky though. A simple tablet affixed to the wall would have the same effect. Like the sports bars that have tv's in the loo so you don't miss any of the action, or the restaurants that have the days newspapers front page above each urinal.

Hmmmm...this doesn't sound very 'new' to me as I've been in a couple of public restrooms where there were digital displays displaying ads above the urinals. The only difference is its not built in

Fewer people are going to those places because of the internet.

 

But there's still enough people going that they can sustain their business, barely.

So they want to look at ways to optimize their money of course. Don't blame them, they're businesses and they want to survive.

A lot of public urinals cost money to use, so I see this as a great opportunity to discard the fee and show adds while peeing, win-win.

Potentially. But not in a paid for establishment where you already paid money like for a restaurant or cinema or such.

 

Public Bathrooms? Fair enough. Let me choose to pay for the AD free bathroom and leave the AD supported bathroom for those who don't want to or can't afford to.

yes cause the one place I want to see ads it's when I'm taking a piss, cause you know I care so much about the new dewalt ladder line up when I am taking one. Nah, not trying to justify them doing it. Just saying why they might do it.

 

There's a movie theatre near me that I believe has replaced all of their two cashiers with kiosks, it was two cashiers and 2 kiosks but I think it's 4 kiosks now, and now there's just really the usher(s) and then the concession people.

Ad free restrooms require that you subscribe to a monthly or annual subscription for that mall or cinema and the specific one that includes access to the ad free restrooms /s
