Think if the Iron Man/Tony Stark house

you wake up, your alarm goes off, your blind opens to let the light in, and your shower begins warming up

As you shut the shower off the coffee machine downstairs begins a nice morning cappucino

thanks to the connected fridge, last night reminding you that you were low on  milk, there is a fresh delivery on the doorstep for you to put in your coffee

Walking towards your car, it starts the engine, connects to your phone, puts on your favourite driving playlist and sets your climate control to the most comfortable setting

All of this basically without you really doing anything - that is where IoT is going

Don't you think humans would become far to lazy? I mean, not even doing a coffee. Will the house brush my teeth also? lol.

Lazy, Im not sure, modern lives are 10x busier than life was 100 years ago

Like back in 1830 you could spend 3 weeks travelling to another country to trade... now you can do it on your apple watch over your morning coffee , and still drive to work, work a full day, come home, cook for the kids, buy some headphones off amazon to arrive in 1 hour, and fly a drone to spy on next door

I mean there is so much happening, and the more time we can save by not fucking around, the better

Well, at least they equipped the fridge with a proper specs system, unlike Samsung with their fridge. Despite running Android, and being Samsung, the experience was a bit on the slow side, and not fast and responsive as it should be,

Inb4 people whine that they can't use Windows 7 or Linux on it.

Actually a benefit from running Windows on the fridge for LG over Samsung, is that Samsung fridge was running a custom Android (as usual).

Samsung needs to support both he OS and the app for their fridge, and well.. it's not the type of fridges that sells like hot cakes, let's put this way. So it is unlikelly that it will have nice support level. So it is most likely that the OS won't be updated after 1-2 years.

However, LG, can focus on their app (UWP app) and not worry about the OS, reducing cost, extended support. And one would assume that they'll use the same app for future models of the fridge, and just update it, meaning those with older models will have the latest app, updated through the Store, and know that they'll continue to get the latest OS update.

For the glory of satan of course

Not even sure if that has any context, I just felt like writing that and then coming to a different answer.

It'd make more sense for them to use Android or build a custom Linux distro, I guess they were feeling lazy and decided not to do that.

Then someone hacks your house, your alarm is late, your shower is ice cold, your coffee is tea, your fridge then orders you 1 tonne of Stilton, your car and makes you listen to Justin Bieber all the way to work (being optimistic that car manufactures will workout how to keep the important stuff secure). All because securing stuff costs money.

I'm surprised there are people here who don't know about smart fridges, they've been a thing since at least 1998.

Of course there is a downside to everything or life would be too good

While ridiculous on the surface, this appeals to me(as a .NET developer) if it has cameras and various sensors along with an SDK and network access.
