AMD provides a glimpse of it's new ZEN processor : breakthrough performance !

AMD just posted a video on it's youtube channel teasing their new ZEN architecture :

 

 

 

Keep in mind these are numbers coming from AMD themselves , meaning they still should be taken with a grain of salt , but should still be a more reliable source than most leaks and rumors .

 

Zen seems to be on track .

It is not bad.

 

So their engineering sample has roughly the same IPC as Broadwell.

 

AMD are now more like a McLaren F1 against Intel's Bugatti Chiron instead of their AM3+ Volkswagen Beetle.

There will be , but AMD is focusing on the high end first . The 8 cores will come first ( probably with the 6 cores ) , and they should release the quad core a few months later

I have a MIGHTY NEED to upgrade, but with it being a new platform i dont know what motherboards may be on the way. But considering im on a comparatively old board, it will still be an upgrade.

My 3770k is currently on life support and my board isn't doing great either . Holding out until zen or kaby lake .

That's one of the implications of that test, anyway. Keep in mind there's still a lot we don't know. Maybe that's a best-case scenario for Zen and it falls short elsewhere, maybe GPUs were involved in that test, maybe there is some major power or price sacrifice needed to achieve that performance, etc.

 

It's a very positive showing, I'm just cautioning against drawing big conclusions from a single AMD demonstration.

An AotS screenshot from a questionable, NDA-breaking source is interesting but it doesn't count for much. I'll decide how I feel about Zen when we have PCPer/TechReport/Anandtech articles where we have complete testing methodologies explained, a wide range of games and applications in the test, power/temperature/overclocking results, etc.

If AMD is selling a CPU that's competitive with a 6900k then they'll surely price it similarly to a 6900k ($1100~). They may very well price it a bit below Intel's pricepoint in order to entice buyers, but not half the price...maybe 20% cheaper (which is still a good thing). $300-350 is probably reasonable for a 6 core (the 6800k is $400) and $800-$900 for the 8 core.
