Yeah, Windows Vista had that problem too. I'm glad that isn't in 8 and above.

TBH i think that Microsoft will still allow any one to upgrade for free after the first 12 months are up,

I mean when your on windows 10 you are practically a free revenue source since Microsoft is just selling all of our private data to advertisement companies.

This does not just affect Intel based machines either. According to the blog post my Terry Myerson, Windows 10 will be the only supported Windows platform for Kaby Lake (Intel’s next gen 14 nm processors), Snapdragon 820 (Qualcomm), and Carrizo (AMD).

Going forward, as new silicon generations are introduced, they will require the latest Windows platform at that time for support. This enables us to focus on deep integration between Windows and the silicon, while maintaining maximum reliability and compatibility with previous generations of platform and silicon. For example, Windows 10 will be the only supported Windows platform on Intel’s upcoming “Kaby Lake” silicon, Qualcomm’s upcoming “8996” silicon, and AMD’s upcoming “Bristol Ridge” silicon.

After July 2017, computers on the supported list that are still running Windows 7 will still get security updates, but any updates specific to that platform will not be released if it risks the reliability of other Windows 7 or 8.1 platforms.

Hmm I feel like there is something sinister lurking behind windows push to give everyone a "free" upgrade more and more......either way it doesn't really affect me, I have haswell and will continue to watch windows 10 play out for a few more months before deciding my next move. Hopefully less BS will spew forth from microsoft, but I'm not very hopeful. Though for all we know this is another BS article so I will keep an open mind still.

i think MS is finally manning up. Sometimes, people need a kick in their asses, seeing that there is still critical systems in the public transport and medical sector that runs Win XP or earlier. These systems are highly insecure and MS HAVE to support these clients, albeit on a "low priority".

So i think MS is trying to avoid having to deal with obsoleted products a decade after they were made obsolete in the first place -> again.

screw 2000.... some Flight control systems at places like Charles Du'galle in Paris, one of Europes biggest airports, run PRE MS 95... we are talking DOS based systems controlling air traffic.

well we dont know what the world of CPUs will be in 2-3 years. What if we have stacked processors and shit that didnt even have a place in the corner of our mind back when Windows 7 was invented. I'm assuming this is Microsoft's way of saying: Might work, if it doesnt, we warned you.
