Deepcool's new Liquid Cooled PSU - CES 2016

At CES 2016, DeepCool was displaying a Liquid Cooled PSU. 

 

 The main reason is the lower noise, since with the proper design there is no need for a high-speed fan, which can be a loud noise source especially when the PSU is pushed hard. In addition, liquid cooling can offer lower temperatures which will lead to better performance and increased reliability, because the stress to the PSU's parts will be lower. However there is a catch here and this is depicted on the fact that you will still have to cool down the parts (e.g. electrolytic capacitors) that cannot be heatsink-mounted, so a fan will be needed, especially if the liquid-cooling block doesn't allow for a fanless design. In this case DeepCool used an FDB fan, which handles mostly the cooling of the PSU's passive components (capacitors).

 

 

According to DeepCool their liquid cooled PSU will be ready in 4-5 months, since they are still evaluating its performance and operation in general. As you can see from the provided photos the unit has a thick aluminum chassis which plays a significant role into removing the heat from the internals. This PSU features also a fully modular cabling design along with LED lighting.

Note that the product is still in Prototype.

 

The OEM behind their prototype is CWT.

 

DeepCool's PR informed that they are planning to release more than one models with most likely 650W and 750W capacities and that the efficiency certification will be 80 PLUS Gold, while they are also thinking to upgrade it to 80 PLUS Platinum.

Thats cool and stupid. But the biggest question I have is who is the manufacturer of the PSU it self. Seasonic? No one want's to buy a bomb.

I could understand for über builds, but those guys aren't gonna use 650 watt power supplies. This would make more sense aimed at the high end, wouldn't it? Maybe in the 1000 watt range in lt would fit in better.

I've not seen a PSU of the enthusiast price range ever have a loud fan, or a fan that is not off most the time.

 

They seem to disprove their own reasoning for the point of the product: To not have a fan. By having a Fan

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P

That better come with a warranty that covers everything in the case, or no one in their right mind (except maybe custom builders) is going to buy it.

I don't like that it's built by CWT. They have some decent PSUs, but I think anyone who has a custom loop should also use a top-tier PSU.

A liquid cooled PSU only makes sense at top-of-the-line build where liquid cooling is more common. Those rigs tend to use more than 650W, so I cant see anyone buying this

Well not much, it would just possibly destroy your computer components, itself and blow the fuses in your house. You probably wouldn't die. Still deffinetly not practical, but with something like this, who cares really.

I think it can be made pretty save so don't worry about to much about that. When you mount your watercooled GPU above the PSU, are you scared about leaking?

But I don't like it because it still has a fan. Considering you can get a full passive PSU with 550 watts, the added noise for 200 watts more is pretty bad.

Mineral oil and 40 kg aluminium heat sinks are a perfect combination: 73 cores and a Titan X, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Oil

PSUs can stop their fans when not full load so you cant get anymore silent. I see no reason for this. 

 

Also in before it begins to leak and the caps blow.
