They did that so people won't overcharge their batteries, but they can also add some a battery management module to stop it from charging. Then again most are lazy and would just leave it plug in, thus making their wireless mouse not wireless.

The 15" (and maybe the 13"/air) will probably be upgrading to skylake by the end of october -- that tends to be when the MBP get updated. It's an interesting question why they didn't update the 15" at the same time as the 13" though....but it's possible it was due to insufficiently large enough yields....or maybe just apple trying to clear out stock. Either way, it's not the biggest issue in the world but broadwell iris pro is quite a bit better...so yeah, it does kind of suck. 

 

I dont see why anyone would bother with the magic mouse going forward. I have one and I paid for it and even in osx the gestures are not that big a deal and i would rather just use my death adder. On my macbook pro apple is still king of trackpads and that is more than enough.

Some people prefer the magic mouse (I have no idea why....but they do). For me, I'd rather have a the magic trackpad or a normal mouse, but whatever.

razer needs to do this with the next firefly and just start putting wireless charging on their mice

Yeah, I watched DetroitBORG's videos on this and the Magic Keyboard, and the mouse is full retard. A charge port on the rear would at least be usable while the mouse charges. Hell, the keyboard has one on the rear so you can use it and charge it.

Some laptops will prevent the battery from charging to 100% and top out around 80% to prevent from over charging and proloning the life of the battery itself, but not all laptops have this, so the manual way of doing that is to physically plug and unplug the charger at specific times when the battery reaches a certain percent. 99% of the users don't like that becuase it's a hassle. Lithium Ion batteries can't be over charged and can't be fully drained, it's not good for them so you must always keep it withing a specific range. So what I do is, unplug once it reaches 100% and then plug it back in when it reaches around 20-30%. And repeat...

It only takes 2 minutes charging for 9 hours usage. Although you wouldn't want to be using the Magic Mouse for gaming anyway, you can't even click both the left and right mouse button at the same time with that pos.

Well that defeats the purpose of being a wireless mouse. My old G700 can do that, but then I spend $100 on a wireless mouse not spend $100 on a wireless mouse and the make it wired by removing the battery. If I was to get a wired mouse, then I would have got something cheaper.  Well the G700 did come with a free RTS game so I'm not complaining.

For me, every interruption is a drop in efficiency. Even such a short period of time like two minutes is going to disrupt my ability to give continuous thought to a topic, and that's not something I want as a college student. And the price...Why on Earth would I spend $80 for a drop in efficiency? I currently use a $2 wired mouse I got at Goodwill, and I don't have to worry about it randomly stop working; it has no strings attached. I plug it in and it just works, something I value in products, and something Apple usually nails down. But, this Magic Mouse 2, I have to worry about it dying, carefully remember by when it will lose all its charge so I can determine if I have to take the charger with me, and if I forget and the mouse dies, I'm sore out of luck. If I want to use Photoshop for my Computer Graphics Technology class, that's practically impossible to do with my laptop's trackpad, if I want to do Chemistry or French homework, I have to click a lot(i.e. I have to click a button to place accented letters in French or place reaction arrows in Chemistry), and that makes me lose a lot of speed and precision.

 

So, no, screw that, screw this dumb product. I will not deal with this drawback because it decreases the Magic Mouse's usability versus other products'. No matter how big or small you consider this issue, you cannot deny it is a drawback of the product. Therefore, if I can find some other device without it but equivalent performance in other departments, I would choose that instead of this.

Indeed, and supposedly some products do this, although I've never been able to confirm this is the case except that the circuitry exists as you can remove the battery and it will still function plugged in. There isn't a test that can be done to confirm one way or another if the battery is being bypassed or attempted to be charged.
