Worst Tech mistake you have ever made?

Mitch

64GB of RAM on consumer CPU instead of 128GB on server CPU.

Why would you ever need that much RAM?

I plugged a 4 pin floppy connector into a CD aux connector on a sound card when I was quite young. The blue smoke that made the sound card work escaped.

I actually did the exact same thing on my first computer build 10 years ago and somehow the only thing damaged was the cable, the sound card and floppy drive are in working condition to this day.

As for other stupid things... I remember forgetting to plug in the pump on my custom water cooled build after changing a couple of things, it caused the CPU block to leak which killed on of the two 8800GT's in the system.

Also in that same build I decided not to bother with a reservoir and just fill it from the radiator... This turned out to be a nightmare to get the air out of the loop and was a valuable lesson for me (and I bought one the next time when I decided to upgrade the system).

I got a new one. Forgetting a banana at the bottom of one of one of my laptop bags and putting my laptop in there. A week and 400 fruit flies later here I am. The smell was so strong I had to use baking powder ... now I get to open up my laptop and clean dead fruit flies and rotten banana mush out of the air vents... fun.

Made a ghetto fan speed reducer when I was younger. However I switched around the wrong cables around. Which ended up burning half the rubber insulation off the cables on my noname PSU. Not sure, but that might have been the reason why I bought my first proper PSU, the Corsair HX620. Which is still running in my sisters PC today. :)

2006, jesus. That PSU is turning 10 next year. Seasonic build quality I guess.

My first PC build was a mess. 1st mistake was buying a Micro ATX AM3+ mobo, a piece of shit. 2nd was buying a Bitfenix Prodigy M, which has little room for the GPU. This led me to getting a 750 Ti.

Yea, I spent more on the case than the GPU, not very smart.

I solved this a year later by selling most of it, and starting fro scratch besides the HDD, SSD, and CPU. That is my system now (specs in sig)

I still have the case and don't know what to do with it. It is missing a few wires but otherwise in fine condition. I feel guilty and wasteful about throwing away, but at the same time I might be setting someone up for the same disaster I went through. Or the missing wires screws over the possible newbie buying it on craigslist.

Any suggestions on what to do with it?

Why's that?

asus strix is so trash, terrible everything. crashes way too much even with a super low oc. I greatly regret not getting a gigabyte g1 instead of strix simply for the color scheme.

Why didn't you RMA? You probably got a defective card.
