New budget build for a friend?

Budget (including currency): he wants to aim for £500

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Light gaming, subnautica, fortnite etc, schoolwork

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

looking into building a PC for a friend, to upgrade from his cheap ish laptop to something that can run 1080p medium to high. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/HNBd7R here is the pcpp list so far. I hear the Arc A380 is actually a really solid low-mid tier card now thanks to driver updates. He'll need the TB of storage for games, windows etc. Help on how to bring the build together would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

For a pc you'll also need a motherboard, cooler (that's included in the 7600 box tho so don't worry), case and power supply so you won't be in budget

A380 is also not great, for this budget we can get much better performance for gpu if we go used

for a full build try this

i would ideally like to go with AM5 so that we can get a bit of an upgrade path as AM5 has a little while left while AM4 is dead now. problem is then that means we gotta upgrade mobo and ram

with am5 you're not gonna get a full system with a decent gpu. You're not even gonna fit a mobo, case or psu in

with the am4 build you'll get much better gaming performance on a platform where you can still upgrade to an X3D cpu

Good point actually cause it’s a relatively low end AM4 cpu it’s still viable to upgrade to a 5800X3D down the line. Just out of interest now why is the WD green drive so much less than the WD blue?

Hi! Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to buy used. Here's a £500 PC with entirely new parts.

Solid 6-core chip, extremely capable 1080p GPU, 1TB NVMe SSD, decent case, good PSU. Only 2 RAM slots but 16GB will honestly be fine for a while.

The Intel Arc A750 is a better GPU in my opinion, but in the UK it's £20 more. It has similar raster performance and far better ray tracing, but at this budget every pound counts.

This could be an option if they want to go all new but at this budget some used parts would fit easier

To be honest I’m going to stick with yours as I’ve had a lot of discussion with the guy I’m helping build, and a few of my PC enthusiast friends, and we’re all settled with it. Thanks ever so much! Now… which post to mark as the solution 😆
