What's the point of carriers branding their device with logos?

creativename

Is there really a point? Do they thing that people will forget what carrier they're on? I'm probably missing something, so I would like to know. Specifically verizon, like the logo they put on the home button of the note 2, what's the point.

To draw attention to them (like commercial bill boards). If someone else holds your phone, they immediately see what carrier you have.

Basically just gives them another form of advertising (people will see the logo when they see your phone).

I guess if you have a positive experience, then that brand name will stick in your mind since you see it every day, as do your friends and family

I just hate that and the costumized ROMs they use with their logos everywhere. I only buy unlocked phones, or I cyanogenmod the hell out of them ^^

Advertising. Usually it detracts from the look but in some cases adds to it. The Apple logo, for example, usually looks handsome and adds to the appearance of their products. Alienware is another company which has a cool looking logo that lights up. I also never minded the X in Nexus products.

What I don't like is the simple "Last paste the brandname" on the phone style. Or Android phones that have not only the name of the phone manufacturer but also the name of the carrier. I hate seeing HTC on the bottom and Verizon at the top.

Obviously it is advertising, no matter where a logo any time anyone can see it is free advertising.. and the poster above me is right I hate the look of logos sometimes. A lot of times they make the effort to make it look alright but sometimes it looks horrendous.

It's like watching sports on TV. Even if you don't watch it, I don't really, you know you have the broadcaster of the event logo passing right in your face in 3D every 2 min.

I think its basically that they don't want you to go, when asked: What are you watching? What is your carrier? "I don't know", or say a another company by mistake, say your cable TV or home phone service, which is something that happens. How many times I ask what Windows they have, and I get "Dell", or "Pentium" or "Core i3" or something.

But it's advertisement to others, when you show your phone, as explained by others.

Advertising. My phone is covered in two Verizon logos, one on the back and one on the front (opposite of the Nokia logo), I think that'll tell people what carrier they should use if they want a Nokia Lumia Icon.

Tramp stamp stuff as their property.

Besides looks, and paint, and finishes, but hey, who gave a shit about those anyway, right?

Free advertising / also denotes what carrier the device is locked to. I don't mind one from the OEM, if it's placed semi decently. I don't mind the 'Nexus' on the back of Nexus devices, and the way LG did the logo on the 4/5 was fine. 6 isn't particularly excellent but it's not bad.

I gave you an option at least. I buy phones for 100% utility, not as some gay badge of douchedom. if your a guy and you really care if your phone has a rough spot. im starting to question things.

Fortunately we don't have that kind of thing here in Finland (It's hard to find a phone with an carrier lock unless it's off a contract and even then the lock only lasts the time of the contract.)

Go get a baseball bat, take the components out of your computer, then hit it, make sure it's dented, then put it back in. You won't? Oh, right, you care about looks. People buy phones for looks and functionality. Not just one.

Did i say hit your phone with a baseball bat? What thread are you reading? I said scrape it with a precision tool. At least sound like you're paying attention and keep that baseball bat away from your head. Now you just made yourself sound like an idiot. Good game. Next!

That's still potentially scraping the phone. The point is that you do care about looks, and scratching it does affect the looks, so you either see the sense or you're just being stubborn. Also scratches, dinks, etc, lower the resale worth. Some people do that.

Because $

Thankfully, here in the UK, we don't need to deal with carriers slapping their name on the phone.

I run my phone without a case, but after functionality looks is a close second. The condition of my phone is really important. I can sell my phone right now for 200ish, and that will cover the cost of a newer phone on a contract. While trade in value is like 50$. So yeah, the codition of my phone is important. Because a extra 150$ is nice

To reming you whom the phone really belongs to.

Advertising. Usually it detracts from the look but in some cases adds to it. The Apple logo, for example, usually looks handsome and adds to the appearance of their products. Alienware is another company which has a cool looking logo that lights up. I also never minded the X in Nexus products.

So shouldn't we get paid a subsidy by the carriers for keeping the branding? Offer phones that don't have branding and you get stuck with the full bill. The people choosing to provide free advertising should get another $5/month knocked off their bill.

This is why I wear almost zero clothing with branded logos on them. I am not a billboard; if I like a particular company's products, they'll get word-of-mouth and that's a blessing coming from me.

Its more of a status thing when it comes to clothing. I wear a lot of Polo Ralph Lauren (As a matter of fact the shirt in my profile picture over to the left is a Ralph Lauren sports shirt). And I've had people ask me if I'm well off (I'm really not) but Ralph Lauren tends to be associated with higher income houses and wearing that logo symbolizes it. Whereas wearing the logos from clothes from Walmart signify the opposite. And in all honesty, I've grown to love the look of certain logos like Brooks Brothers, Lacoste and Polo.

It's good for the companies because the logo sometimes becomes recognizable beyond belief. You aren't going to find many people who don't recognize the polo pony. And its good for the consumer because if someones wearing a shirt with that logo on it, it means they can afford to and most people like flaunting their status if they have it to flaunt.
