You know you're a techie when. . .

Right now I have 5m of ethernet cable and some ends ready to be assembled on my desk soooo.

But really one day back in August when I was on the way home with the bus, was wearing shorts, my highlander tshirt and a mechanical keyboard under my arm.

If you want to join a really cool Discord chatroom with some great guys here from LTT and outside this community then PM me!

i was thinking about building a wooden case how hard it was ?,what experience with tools and wood you have ?

the only think from keeping me from doing it is the fear from f*c!ng up something

It can be as easy or complicated as you want it to be. All you really need is Inkscape or a similar drawing program, and access to a laser cutter. The StealthRay was made up of about a hundred separate pieces of MDF so that one's quite complicated, but I suggest you start with a simple motherboard tray design, and expand from there. I have very little experience with woodworking. All the parts were cut out with the laser cutter and little to no hand work was required. Everything just sort of went together like a jigsaw puzzle.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

When your the only one complaining that computers for your school's design lab are running core 2 duos.

When the amount of boxes from old tech orders is becoming a fire hazard.

When your friends are scared that you'll hack into their phones, emails, etc.

When you get in an argument with someone who says that their macbook air is super powerful.

When you have to explain to everybody in your class that that the router isn't called an airport and have to tell them what is does.

When I was able to by pass my schools Firewall without the use of a proxy.

They didn't know that giving me the password for one of the main admin accounts was a bad idea.

Shutdown server? (Y/N) :D

When people think you are hacking because you are using batch script to organize your folders.

When you have replaced a RJ45 more than once.

When your teachers say that you can probably by-pass the security (Firewall, monitoring software, admin passwords ect)... and you can.

When you end up having a 12 port switch because you couldn't stand WiFi.

When you spend time looking at server logs to see if you can optimize them.

I have more, I just don't want to type them out.

Make a batch file that says

echo on

cmd

echo off

That bypasses the restriction on the command line. I've tried it on two school systems and it works every time, and it's undetectable unless someone is actually  watching you.

Command prompt is locked at my school. They really know how to lock down our computers sadly. I can't access task manager or run dialog - anything....

When I passed every IT class from elementary school til uni where they just teaches you Microsoft Office (no joke) and you knows more about hardware and how to build a PC than 99% of your circle of friends. And yeah the tech support thing too

When you become a ICT Teacher just because it was your favorite subject at school.

Completing a full tear down of an iphone just to see if the hardware matches the specs.

Having 16gb (4x4gb) DDR3 RAM under your bed.

Owning a Raspberry Pi - telling your self its for educational use only! (Then using it for Streaming games to tv).

Know all the specs of your current computer and previous ones.

Overclocking is standard...

Buying multiple SSD just to Raid 0.

When someone says do you speak any languages? Your reply is always C++, HTML, Python, Basic & Java.

However my great techie moment was in a degree exam for database design and functions - i drew 18 pages of pictures of how to create a fully working database with data validation. However i was marked down for not having a conclusion or any sentences (excluding my name on the cover) I did still achieve 68% which is two marks off a first :)

He was the one who taught me and always drops 3-4k every 3 years to upgrade. He wants a sli 970 to justify my one!

He is into games like civ. Hes not being serious though!

Actually now that i think about it, hes sorta upset that i have haswell instead of the one before... muhahahaha. My family always tease each other about who has the better part.

you have a cool family. no one in my family understands computer parts like i do(which is nothing compared to what people in the forums know).

when you have several flash drives at your backpack containing installers, anti-virus, ubuntu, etc.

when you explain something about tech and everyone else think you are a nerd.

when you are better than the IT on your school.

When you say "What do you mean why?" when someone asks you why you wear a USB stick on a chain around your neck.

When someone asks you how you use 5 monitors and 3 PC's at the same time and all you can say to that is how can they stand just one monitor.
