Campaign Dares Facebook Users To Quit For 99 Days

Can you go 99 days without looking at Facebook? A Dutch nonprofit called Just B.V. wants Facebook users to quit the social network for more than three months and participate in “happiness” surveys. The campaign is called 99 Days of Freedom and the happiness surveys would be taken at the 33-, 66- and 99-day marks to monitor progress.

 

 

99 Days of Freedom is in response to Facebook’s mood experiment, in which the social network manipulated the News Feed of over 689,000 users without notifying them to determine if showing certain types of content could change their overall sentiments. Just’s Art Director Merijn Straathof said that the idea for the campaign was brought up after the news of the Facebook mood experiment went viral.

 

 

This is not an anti-Facebook protest, but Straathof believes that there are emotional benefits to moderation. Straathof said that the experiment will yield “a lot of positive personal experiences.” It is still early in the challenge and several participants said that day one has been rough. However, it should become easier over time to ween off dependence on the social network.

Most facebook users that are upset are just too stupid to know how read. It's all in the terms and conditions. >.<

Never really used facebook, well besides for giveaways.

In the last 2 years I've unfriended over half of my facebook people and the ones that remain don't post shit, seriously I get relevant updates maybe once a day out of 142 "friends" So yeah easily.

I don't use Facebook, but it will be nice to see the outcome of it.

I mostly use Facebook to follow random companies and a few friends, coworkers, and family. Went a long time at one point without logging in. The only hard part would be losing track of random events people organize over Facebook, especially in the summer.

I've only used facebook for like, the first 20 days I made an account, then got incredibly bored of it, which was at least 3 years ago.

Now used only in case of the "like us on facebook and you get a prize" which I did once and got a free tube of IC Diamond 7 (BOOYAH!)

SO... haven't used it since then, which was at the start of the year. Only use it now because I can use messenger (useful because friends from school live around the world)

Facebook, I'll be waiting for my prize, you already know where to send it

I've been doing this since...well..facebook.

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I use facebook but I am not dependant on it. That said the only people I have on there are close friends, family, old school friends

 

For me its a nice way to keep in touch and stay updated on news/events. I just use it like a text messaging service really
