Posted November 10, 2020 My Notebook is turning 4 Months old now, I do plan on using it for two years at the minimum. Am gonna wait till all of the new GPUs are out before I'll build my brand new Rig. I plan on keeping that rig for however long it takes Nvidia to launch RTX 4000 and AMD RX 7000 (if they end up calling it that) so probably two years. You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile. I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here. If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.
 Posted November 10, 2020 8 years old for my primary computer. My rule is either 10 years between upgrades or upgrade when my current machine can no longer do what I need of it, and my 8 year old laptop still does what I need it to. Posted November 11, 2020 Multiselection might have been better for me CPU, mobo and half of RAM as well as cooler are 7 years old. Case is bought used in 2016, GPU is bought used in 2017. Main HDD is from 2014 I think. SSD is from 2018. So range of 2 to 7 years. Oldest still in use part of whole system is my monitor from 2009. ^^^^ That's my post ^^^^ <-- This is me --- That's your scrollbar --> vvvv Who's there? vvvv
 Posted November 11, 2020 I used my old Samsung laptop for 7 years not because I could not afford one but because I just did not need an upgrade. Sadly the mobo gave up 2 years ago and that is when I got my new laptop, Lenovo Legion Y520. I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Posted November 11, 2020 I have a ~14 year old Acer laptop with an AMD Athlon X2 @ 2.1ghz (I think), 256gb HDD, a really, really crappy Radeon GPU and 2 gb of DDR2 RAM. This was considered to be a 'budget' system when it was new. I tried to upgrade to 3gb with RAM (if I remember correctly, 3gb was the limit) I found off of ebay, but it gave me BSOD's, so I removed it. I rarely use it, because Win10 takes 10 minutes to start up. It serves as a backup and computer in the garage when I'm working on something and need to reference instructions online (although I believe my rpi 3 loads web pages faster) LOL. Everything comes to a screeching halt if I have more than one browser tab open. If I'm bored, I may try installing an ultra-light OS like Ubuntu Mate or Mint and see if it's at least semi-pleasant to use.
 Posted November 11, 2020 I have never updated at least something below a year or two. My current components are less than a year old and the longest time I had a CPU was 5 years. But now that I work, I will likely just buy every or every second generation and give away or sell my old ones.
 Posted November 11, 2020 I upgraded my GTX 580 Matrix Platinum to a 980 Classified 2 years ago, and I upgraded my intel 520 ssd to a couple of 545s the summer before last. They were over 50% off so I had to. I also bought a Meshify C a couple of years ago.. love that case, but since my P8Z77-V kicked the bucket I had to go back to my old case because it eats an eatx board no problem, I’d have to do some cutting to get it to fit otherwise.. don’t have a dremmel. I wouldn’t mind a new GPU but it still handles 1080/60 just fine. Posted November 11, 2020 On 11/10/2020 at 5:23 AM, Ashley said: what i mean by how old is your pc i mean cpu+mobo+ram. gpu's and storage, the main things you'd normally upgrade over the years don't count. though i am still interested how old those components are, they don't count for the poll. i'm curious if the people on here upgrade more often than general consumers. we all know that "normies" will run a machine either until it gets slow or dies, and most normies i talk to have computers that are nearly 10 years old by now. i wanna know if this community upgrades more often. i myself use a base platform that's almost 11 years old now, 2 Xeon X5650's, 32gb of ram and a Supermicro server board. so it's basically the best of the best from that era, and it's still very usable for what i do with it which is general use and heavily multithreaded tasks like running a few VM's at a time. i barely game on it, and when i do i don't play multiplayer games, just old single player games, and that works just fine as i don't need 60fps all of the time i'm playing. i often turn up the details really high, so like... That is a good main PC! Me over vibing with a MacBook lol.
