Guys I don't know what the hell to do. I ordered a desk and it was really late from Amazon and so I started a live chat ...

Well I ran it by the final person I had to run it by and that is mom who actually turned me in a bargain hunter and good shopper and she said keep it and so I am going to.  If the refund goes through fine and if not fine.

Guys I don't know what the hell to do.  I ordered a gaming desk and it was really late from Amazon and so I started a live chat and told them of my issue which was seeing different messages about when this would come and that it was said to be arriving on the 5th and still was not here and well now later, the afternoon, I see that it is being delivered today but the thing is ..... Amazon had said to me they wanted to process a refund and started it and said if I got my desk to just keep it for free.  Now I am a person that feels morally obligated to tell them but they decided to process the refund and tell me to keep the desk.  What the hell do I do?  What would you all do?

I'd just keep it if they said to tbh 

usually the cost of shipping makes it more expensive for them to ship it back as opposed to just telling you to keep it tbh

If I didn't need the desk, but still got it, I would donate it to something like Goodwill, Salvation Army, or St. Vincent DePaul. 

 

I've done that before when I've accidentally received more quantity than needed of something.

Amazon said if it shows up it's free. So if it shows up, it's free.

The moral approach here is to do what they've told you to do.

They have their reasons. Processing returns and restocking items, especially on bulk items, is expensive. 

So the cost of the product + the value in customer service, is probably more worthy to them than you returning it.

I would let them know that the desk arrived, and that I would like to return or cancel the refund.

I think this would answer it for me. Keep the desk, it's probably more expensive for them to return the desk to Amazon again anyways.

If you feel bad about getting the desk for free, you can always decide to gift the item (to a friend or family member of charity/thrift shop).

It's no loss to Amazon, losing a customer is.. don't debate, keep it in good faith, they clearly need you so you keep buying from them. It's somewhat deceptive unless you educate yourself.

It is their fault

It is their idea for you to keep the desk and keep your money

 

They are after all a multi billion dollar company, who cares.

It costs them more money to return the desk and throw it in the landfill, yes thats what they do, there was an investigative report on it.
