AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 4750G APU Performance Tests and Results

Although AMD has only launched its Zen 2 APUs in the OEM market, their RYZEN PRO series of APUs (R5 4650G and R7 4750G) is now available for purchase in Hong Kong as tray CPUs (R5: HK$1799 / US$232 ; R7: HK$2680 / US$345). Hong Kong tech forum HKEPC has purchased the R7 4750G for testing against its non-APU and Intel equivalents, R7 3700X and i7 10700 respectively.

The 4750G is only performing 2~5% lower than the 3700X, but brings 7nm VEGA IGP die. No wonder AMD does not want to launch the RYZEN 4000 APUs to the consumer market, and also limits them to the 500 series chipset. Although the 4750G is quite cheap, the lack of PCIE 4.0 support may discourage some gamers, especially those who plan on buying an eGPU, keeping in mind that the iGPU is not that powerful. Unless you do not play games, the 4750G is a great buy for DIY PC building.

4750G CPU 只是微輸 2~5% 卻換來7nm VEGA IGP 繪圖核心，難怪 AMD 不想將 Ryzen 4000 APU 完全面向零售市場，同時要限制只有新的 500 系列主機板才能支援。

 

雖然 Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G 價錢較便宜，但不支援 PCIe 4.0 對於玩家來說吸引力將會大大減低，尤其是遊戲玩家來說都會考慮買顯示卡，內建 7nm VEGA 8 這個賣點吸引力並不大，除非你並不玩遊戲，4750G 在組建 PC 的成本上帶來優勢。

Personal commentary

From the CPU benchmark results, the 4750G consistently performs on par with the 3700X, both leaving the 10700 in the dust. In some tests, the 4750G even beats the 3700X despite its lower L3 cache, possibly due to its SOC design instead of the 3700X's chiplet design and minimising latency. From the GPU benchmark results, the Vega 8 on the 4750G is consistently on par with the RX 550 and ahead of the Vega 11 on the 3400G and GT 1030. (Of course, Intel's UHD 630 is completely crushed.)

 

In my opinion, if you are only a very casual gamer or do not require much GPU horsepower (such as office work and studying), the 4750G is an excellent buy. For HK$280 / US$36 when compared to the 3700X, you get a GPU which can handle basic 1080p gaming, satisfying needs for light gaming between work or study sessions. When compared to the 10700, the 4750G is HK$30 / US$4 more expensive, directly competing with the 10700, but what you get is a significantly more capable CPU and GPU, CPU/GPU/RAM overclocking support and more. There is simply no reason to buy the 10700 as it is basically irrelevant in the competition. I am also anticipating the results for the 4650G, as it is probable that it is also much more compelling than the already not-so-attractive 10400.

 

N.B. above price figures and comparisons are based on retail prices (about the same in various retailers) in Hong Kong as of date of writing. Current HK retail price of 3700X and 10700 are HK$2400 / US$309 and HK$2650 / US$342 respectively.

N.B. this is assuming the RYZEN PRO APUs are available for purchase in your market. Otherwise, these would need to be determined by prebuilt systems' prices.

Oh once you see what the XE GPUs are like, you'll probably cringer. The sorry state of that project will be the end of Koduri's career in dGPUs. That is, unless Nvidia take him in next.

Very good 8-core with solid iGPU really. Seeing Navi in APU will be much more interesting, they'll be able to get much more out of it. Not to mention, they could make the GPU even bigger. 

Just imagine if they'd actually release an APU that's like what upcoming consoles will have. Die size wise, they can definitely do it.

Where did you get 1050 from? Based on OP it is only a bit faster than a 1030 in more complex graphical loads which is a potato for gaming. 1050 is much faster than that.

It's actually exactly what I get with a 1050 I'd I enforce stock clocks.

its not that easy, because for one navi is much more costly in terms of transistor count than gcn, also the fact that it moved to double wide shader engines and double wide compute units probably didn't help it when trying to make a small gpu, now when it comes to console like apu, they could 100% do that for laptops because you aren't limited by the atx standard, but on desktop they would need to use hbm to make it work, which might not fit inside the am4 package

Knowing Intel, they'll try everything to convince us to buy their overpriced cpu's. Well, I'm not gonna fall for it. Intel can suck on their cpu's.

That's the spec and most OEM cards and laptops run at 1400-1500 max so yes, it's very fair.

I don't have a 1050 to test these numbers, but from what I've seen online your card must be broken if you only get similar results to the new Vega 8 results. Other people get way higher 3DMark and game FPS results, up to twice as high.

Laptops don't run at those frequencies and I doubt OEMs do as well, and OEMs are on no one's mind when you mention a certain card, even though there's no FE version of the GTX 1050 but for the other cards that do those are built to NVIDIA's spec and will happily boost to 1800-1900Mhz+.

Not when you're talking about a separate product that has no specification or documentation in the OEM market, if instead you want to take the GTX 1060 for example OEMs will mostly use the FE reference design but a GTX 1050 doesn't have one therefor you have to specify what you are talking about and not assume that it will run at base clock because for most of the 1050's out there it will run as NVIDIA intends it to run with GPU Boost.

Also, on an unrelated note, I'd actually really like to get one of these APUs just to dick around with. I could use an 8-core CPU with a usable iGPU.

Interesting, it's on track for eventual release, so it will be fun to see what they'll release. As for a total monolithic die size to pack everything needed, I too wondered could it fit for AM4 package, I think it could. Or make a a huge TR4 APU

Hmm, I'd probably expect them to keep the same size for AM5 though. But being them making both CPU/GPU and these semi-custom APU SOC can only expect in the future they'll bring this for consumers. For new platform I'd expect big things, like various engines built in those next gen console chips.

The OEM models are vBIOS locked. There is no set cooler but they usually come with a radial one akin to the intel stock cooler. No copper slug. That's why they got 87 and throttle the boost.

 

Laptop models are limited to 40-50W and hence cannot boost more. Seeing as the Renoir models are in thrvsame performance category, I merely pointed it out. Sure, they're slower than an EVGA SSC or Asus Strix but those cards are factory unlocked to 90W

The laptop models I've seen boost to 1700Mhz and either way let's not forget that the GTX 1050 has almost double the Shading Units of a GT 1030, so even with a downgrade in boost speeds it will never be anywhere near a GT 1030 in performance from the benchmarks listed above..
