So its good to run both?

Yeah, you can run both. That way at least your CPU always has a WU

Well it's actually exactly what's happening, total contribution went way up but individually you can't get as much work to do and thus points to count anymore 🤣

RIP my old i7 2600 no post, no beep. I was keeping it in case of emergency, this counted.

I tried installing an old 970 into my main system, but then that failed to boot 😱. Fortunately it came back to life grumpily after I removed the new card and prayed to the Omnissiah.

Does anyone know what happened? This is what I did:

1. Existing 2070 left in PCIE slot 1.

2. Plugged 970 into slot 2.

3. Plugged a second PSU into the 970 (I could not find the spare cables for the main system's PSU)

4. Used one of those jumper plug thingies to start the second PSU.

5. Turned on main system.

6. Win 10 circle for 5 minutes, black screen.

7. Reboot, no graphics.

8. Panic.

Thankfully my main system survived the procedure and is chugging along at just under 1M PPD, WU permitting.

This lack of work units is getting a bit old.  Feels like they've had quite a bit of time now and quite a few offers of resources and support that aren't being utilized.  It's not like they're hand coding each WU, it should be distributable and scalable.

No one's gonne steal your points for completed work units. They will be added eventually.

Work units aplenty for me today, been busy all morning!

Long may it continue, well as long as the weather is good and I’m getting free electricity from my solar panels.

Before judging them, you do know they are non-profit organisation and mostly run by volunteers?

Also, on the other note, ACTIVE users are growing exponentially and while their servers were okay (saying "okay" because even then there was some problems) with handling 30k users, and now they have over 400k (as of 20.03.2020.)!!!

And I imagine that number is gonna be (if it already isn't) doubled in a few days/weeks.

Even a scalable process will have a hard time scaling by more than an order of magnitude in a few days...

That said I think I'll pause for now, today's pretty terrible, only got 2 WUs so far and one took an hour to upload...

I don't think many people realise just the level of complexity when it comes to have servers that need to be synced up and load balancing is a nightmare. F@H uses bespoke software, it's not as simple as installing a docker or cloning another system to it. Especially when you look at the fact most of F@H servers are VERY old and were donated by universities when those said institutions upgraded.

Unfortunately if they go crazy and scale out all the way to the levels required to support all the current folders, i fear it will be wasted effort because 2 or 3 months down the line a large portion of the current folders will most likely be gone again.

Side note, I have found Chrome to not work that well on a large number of occasions for the web client but edge (not the new edge based on chomium, but the old one) seems to work consistently better.
