Unsurprisingly, the movie has not been without controversy. There have been growing concerns that the movie is too "violent", glorifies revenge killing and might encourage gun violence. It has also had some backlash for upholding the stigma that mental health issues make people become more violent, when in fact people with mental health issues are more at risk of being victims of violence.

Apparently, police in the US were considering patrolling cinemas to keep audiences safe, especially after gunman James Holmes opened fire at a Colorado cinema during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, killing 12 people and injuring 70.

Apparently, people have even walked out of the movie and said it should be "banned" because of the violent scenes.

Did these people balls drop off after the movie? Aren't Joker suppose to be funny and violent at the same time? I didn't watch the new Joker movie, but I did watch the Dark Knight Rises movie and the Joker actor in that movie is really good. Anything can encourage gun violence, not just this movie alone. Why this movie and not other movies filled with violence, killing, and possibility encourage gun control?

Not really tech news but the only reason they are saying this is because the news said it first. I saw the movie and enjoyed it. While the movie is graphic and definitely not for all ages it’s far from the most grisly movie I’ve seen. Demanding a ban on a movie based on its content is just absurd.

can we all stop trying to push boundaries? its a cartoon character that has been around for a long time, there is a bar for the joker.

people are clearly sick of the dark movie phase.

Also wrong. Joker has been shown to be a 'real person' throughout a good bit of his history. Joker has been through countless iterations as a character, which is fitting to his character. But I would argue he is "like a real person" in:

and citing comics and tv and dark knight rises is not an argument.

they show humanity or cartoony, not a character profile you should be revolted by, heath ledgers was not real by a long shot

thats the difference by real and not real, in reality, you are revolted by someone like the joker.

The Dark Knight was just as dark if not darker. Heath Ledger died due to his time playing the Joker, because he had to get himselve to that "Place" to get the character right. Personally I felt the New Joker movie was sorta a prequel, to what Heath Ledger's Joker. My dad felt the movie was 1.5 hours of bull shit and 30 Mins of good content.

heath ledgers joker was arguably very, very human, and very very violent

 

The difference is that 2019’s Joker is meant to be a much darker movie and portray the violence of the joker much more intensively.

The joker is an extremely violent and brutal character, it’s just the first time we’re seeing that characters violence on screen in full detail rather than limited to just the comics. Previous jokers had to conform to an overall content continuity of the rest of the movie. With the Joker being the focus in an R rated movie, there was nothing to hold back on. The full detail of the character was able to be explored, and the joker without restriction is violent.

thats why people dont like it, because they didnt hold back and just let their degenerate fantasies run free.

but what they didnt do is actually make a movie about the joker.
