Blizzard is ending support for Win XP and Vista

Blizzard, the company that is well known for long term support for their products and not knowing about a game they couldn't postpone © Honest Game Trailers, is about to remove support for Windows XP and Vista. This should come as no surprise, seeing as how Microsoft is not officially supporting XP anymore and Vista is about to get axed on 11. April.

 

This was announced on battle.net on WoW forums by a Community Manager:

Starting later this year, we will begin the process of ending support for Windows XP and Windows Vista in World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm. Microsoft ceased mainstream support for these versions of Windows in 2009 and 2012, respectively, but since a decent portion of our audience was still using them at the time, we continued supporting them. However, there have been three major Windows releases since Vista, and at this point, the vast majority of our audience has upgraded to one of the newer versions.

After these older operating systems are no longer supported, the games will not run on them, so we encourage any players who are still using one of the older OSes to upgrade to a newer version. We’ll be rolling out this change on a staggered schedule, and will post further notices as we get closer to making the change for each game.

 

If we're honest, pretty much everyone who plays games is on Win 7 or up, so this shouldn't concern most people. If you happen to be using one of these two OS (especially XP), it might be a time for an upgrade.

its sad seeing vista support being axed. it's still a very good operating system, and i liked it over 7 and even 8 and 10.

With 3 newer OS out, that's just wasting resources. I still think 8.1 is the best

Yes but it is 2017 Windows 7+ is a must for anyone who wants any type of security patches. I am 100% fine with this

This has been talked about much, but Vista was far better than people remember it.

The biggest problem was that Vista was installed (bundled) with PCs/Laptops that were underpowered at the time so it performed much worse than it actually was. If you were to install 7 or a newer OS on the same hardware, it would be chaos. 

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

my old hp g50 126nr with 3gb ram and some dual core pentium ran fine both vista and win 7 though.

Sure, it may run better, but it doesn't mean it may still be that good (not talking about your specific case).

I installed Win 7 on a 10+ year old HP Compaq nx9420 and it's doing wonders (8 has driver problems, may try 10), but I had to upgrade the RAM and HDD. It was released at the time when Vista was, and it had Vista preinstalled with 512 MB RAM and DC Celeron @1.66 GHz. It was a high end laptop that costed~$1,700. Imagine the horror.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Of course it would. According to the arguments, its okay because XP and Vista weren't receiving updates anymore. Neither is win 7. It would force people to switch for their own good.

Win 7 is supported until 2020. Vista will be receiving them for 2 more months.
