Who Do You Fold For?

So who do you fold for?

I fold for my mother:

(1930-2014) Lung, brain, bone & liver cancer

 

Her sister:

(1921-1989) Leukemia

 

My Dad's sister:

(1930-1997) Brain Cancer

I'm folding for Alzheimer's disease. I personally don't know anyone that had it but it is just heartbreaking to see people forget their own loved ones and the great things that they've done in their life.

My WW2 Army Air Corp pilot Grandfather died of Alzheimer's disease around ten years ago. I was early twenties at the time and I was glad to have so much time with him. I was surprised at how old he was given the condition he was in. The last time I had a meaningful talk with him I was 19; the conversation was heartfelt though it seemed to repeat every 45 to 60 seconds. A little over two years later was the last time I saw him alive. I went to the "home" he was in with just my Grandmother (which is amazing because i have an enormous family). He was so long gone that he would forget to chew his food with food in his mouth. Somehow the look in his eyes showed me that he was happy to see his sweetheart and he still remembered her.

 

Alternatively I recognize that my family is likely to carry the same genetics. I guess I'm doing it for all of them plus me.

Folding for cancer, a friend of my mum's has suffered the loss of life due to it, and I'd rather not witness another life lose to cancer that way.

I fold in memory of no one person in particular. My grandfather had pancreatic cancer, my other grandfather had polio/a bit of Alzheimers, and my grandmother had melanoma (my other grandmother I believe also passed away from some disease before I was even born but I'm not sure what it was). I also partly fold because I have the hardware lying around doing absolutely nothing and I dont want to sell it for nostalgic purposes (most of the parts of my very first build)

I fold for my dad he died of lung cancer i was 17 when he died really shitty way to go going from healthy to looking like an African refugee with bones sticking out

I fold for my dear friend Christina from college who after being diagnosed with Lymphoma and going into remission had two sons with her husband before this awful disease came back.

I fold for my gran who has dementia, and for my grandad who died of bowel cancer that spread further afield.

I Fold for my "Uncle Ferg" who died from Parkinson's.

Few years a go my childhood friend died of cancer at his late twenties, he had wife and two children. I fold that other young families might have a change in similar situation.

man i'm sorry to hear that, my mom is currently going through MS and seeing her decline with time is a real hell on it's own.

 

anyway, OT: i started folding after losing my grandpops to cancer.

I don't fold for anyone in particular, I've had deaths in the family from cancer, had family members survive breast cancer, but I don't fold for any of them. I have started folding because I have a gaming rig sitting idle for lots of the day and I may as well put it to use for a cause. Some days it folds, others it does not.

once i startfolding (hopefully ASAP), i'll be folding for my grandfather and grandmother, along withmy mother's friend who recently passed from cancer,leaving behind 2 sons and my piano teacher's sweet dog

When I move out (and pay my own electricity bill) I will start folding.

Lost my grandfather last summer due to braincancer. Really sucks to see one of the healthiest and most hard working guys I knew deteriorate so fast, change of his personality and eventually becoming a plant with no memories of his loved ones. In one of his clear moments he decided it would be better to have a lethal injection.

For me both my mom and grandmother (same side of family) are breast cancer survivors.

 

Also my grandfather had Alzheimer's and my grandmother on my dads side had dementia (both passed)

 

Just love to see how we can help fight these diseases in ways that are a little more hands on and help bring out the nerd in me.

I fold when my mum's pizza dough needs heat to rise or during times when it's cold in my room. Figure it's a better use of energy than just using a portable heater. Also sometimes just because.

This may sound a bit corny, but I fold for everyone that suffers with the diseases being researched. I currently work at a research hospital that is also trying to find cures for diseases like these.

I got into folding after hearing about it some years back, after the death of my aunt who was very close me. She lost her life fighting against breast cancer. I had seen her suffer up close and it was a very traumatic experience for me. In her last days i was there with her and the day she past away i had seen her in such a state that remembering that moment till this day saddens me deeply, That time when she past away, she had left behind her disabled 5 year old son and a daughter aged 18.

 

I was only able to comfort her in her last days but i could not do anything to help fight cancer, now thanks to FAH i am able to do something to help in the fight against cancer. Every little bit helps and im gald that this platform is able to do that.

My friend and co-worker Mike (1947-2022) diagnosed with Parkinson's 20 years ago he fought a good fight cheerfully and with honor.
