Did Nvidia get screwed over? Or did Nvidia screw us over?

After all that noise Nvidia make about "Ray Tracing" and "Tensor Cores" the game developers did not implement the "ray tracing" in Battlefield 5.

And there are news of other games dropping the "ray tracing" implementation, such as FF15 have chosen to drop "ray tracing" and Nvidia delaying the drivers for "ray tracing" as well. 

Did we just shit out over $1000 for something we won't even get to use? 

Did Nvidia get screwed over by developers?

I think it's probably a bit of both, but I believe the consumers got screwed harder considering the price for a FE Ti card went from $699 to $1199 for the same ~30% increase in performance generation over generation under the guise of "ray tracing" that won't even run that well at the end of the day.

A bit of it is that m$ screwed up the windows update that was bringing some ray traysing api or whatever but I have a feeling that RTX also isn't as easy to implement as Nvidia claim

FFXV is outside nvidia's control. It isn't my particular interest area (FFXIV is) but I gather the producer quit, SE pretty much cut most planned development for the game apart from the next DLC.

 

Dunno about other devs. It is brand new tech and shouldn't be a surprise that adoption will take time. Even without new features, the 2070 I got for example is comparable in gaming to a 1080, was same price as a 1080, but lower power consumption. It also seems to be faster at some compute applications than 1080, but I've not been able to do a side by side test.

And I'm one of the dead 2080Ti owners, once asus returns me the new card I'm putting it into my shop and sell it. Goodbye regrets.

Actually the 2070 performance is  matched to a GTX 1070ti as well (after you oc the card). 

Now I understand why my cousin Eric didn't get a rtx card

a bit of both. Ray-tracing always felt like a marketing ploy to me. And its something i doubt devs are going to start implementing it anytime soon. Maybe there'll be a handful of games that use it before nvidia's next gen, but who knows.

Should compare like with like. The 1070/1070Ti/1080 thing was a bit tight anyway.

For now it might be nvidia only, but if I understand correctly RT support isn't nvidia proprietary. It's a standard so AMD will probably follow at some point.

Yes but the representative for AMD did say "until RT is implemented on all range of cards they well not be implementing it". 

You got to love it when AMD put Nvidia on the spot.

The thing is, there's a limit of how much powerful GPUs can be for rasterization alone, if you want more eye candy you'll eventually need something new and Ray Tracing is it... but until it becomes relevant it'll take another couple of years... the amount of RTX cards out there in comparison to every other GPU also is so small that yeah... it ain't the priority to any one yet.

Nvidia is a company that sells a product to a consumer. Nvidia needs the consumer otherwise there would be no Nvidia. By buying overpriced products with a promise you tell Nvidia, yeah I'll still buy it. So now Nvidia can charge more for less because the consumers will buy anything. Great example is Apple. You are only hurting yourself in the long run, financially and technologically

I'd like to know what this 3+ year old GPU is. Nearest but clearly slower are 1080ti and Titan Xp which are only around year and half old. Also TDP isn't power draw in all situations. I'm finding Turing better performance per watt over Pascal in compute uses.

Idk if someone can afford that $1,250 graphics card they aren't going to feel ripped off,especially not since you have spend about that much for a system that can handle a 2080Ti. A 2080Ti has about the same TDP rating as a 1080Ti,even a FE based 1080Ti can go over 300w if you bump up the clocks. The usual way of rasterized graphics has a limit to how much it scales with what power you throw at it, we'll need to use ray tracing anyway and at least Nvidia is trying to push something new to the game industry.

The pricing I'll agree on though, I won't spend that much on a GPU and i'd rather buy a 1080Ti and spend the rest on upgrading to 1440P instead.
