Tesla Finally Profitable

According to articles released by Marketwatch and CNBC, Tesla not only became profitable, but also beat Wall street expectations:

CNBC: The company earned an adjusted $516 million during the quarter, which was an otherwise a tumultuous one for the electric car maker. It was Tesla's third profitable quarter and makes good on CEO Elon Musk's promise for to start turning regular profits in the last half of this year.

 

According to Electrek, Tesla made 6.8 billion dollar revenue and 312 million dollar profit. They also state:

It (Tesla) grew by $731 million during the quarter and it now stands at $2.9 billion.

My opinion: good for them, they've earned it (literally). Still a long way to go though, they can't afford to let their guard down. As to Musk, it's definitely worth having a celebration over, but he should probably keep off Twitter in the meantime as well.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Perhaps they did, perhaps they did not. The accountants are very sneaky in what they list in their books. I would trust the news more if some of the majors reported on the profit of Tesla, but even then the spin Tesla can generate is real.

good to see, as long as they dont try to grow too fast they should be fine, (should have kept prioritizing high end sales for a bit longer, while growing volume slowly)

To clarify, this is their first profitable quarter in two years. They have had 3 profitable quarters in their entire history...

 

sounds more like trick accounting than real profits to me.

I wouldn't call it trick accounting.  It's more that they had layoffs, cut costs and bent over backward to speed up production (which improves economies of scale given the sheer amount of orders).  The real challenge is to keep that performance going for more than one quarter at a time.

Did they already lose their subsidy cost on buying electric cars? if not they idk what to think about this number yet

Its just fake news or spin or both. Once they start having back to back profitable quarters, then that will be a good sign. Tesla has flaws in their production stream, but they will learn.

I have a feeling one of his sons is into Naruto or something, and he was bored and watched a bit with him. And I really hope whoever is now feeding him anime gives him the good stuff. Though we're one Haruhi meme from the Internet breaking.

That's good. The better they do, the more they can adapt to different segments. I'm sure a lot of people would buy a 30k € Tesla if there was one, competing with mainstream EV's.

Telsa's mass production techniques are labor intensive because Elon and his team wanted artsy frame. More stuff to do equals more manpower and more mass production robots that are expensive.

Some people just want electric car without the stupid gizmos. Frankly, me included. All the gadgetry is interesting for 2 hours and then you just wish you'd have a normal car. This is coming from a tech guy... And it's all that that is keeping the costs up. 30k € is where mainstream EV car prices float around or start.

 

As for manufacturing, most companies use full robotic assembly of major components, but majority of remaining needs a human hand because they are just too delicate for robots to piece together. Hyundai and Toyota have the most advanced robotic plants and they still need people to piece things together. I don't think Tesla is any different there.
