Asus prepares to launch ROG STRIX RX 590 | RX 590 Confirmed with imminent launch

Anynonymous sources have confirmed Asus is preparing to launch the upcoming ROG STRIX RX 590.

 

Multiple sources speaking on condition of anynonymity to Videocardz have confirmed RX 590 exists and will launch imminently.

 

We have some basic specs although there are still some rumors.

 

For starters the specs we know of thus far include:
12nm Global Foundries process

36 Compute Units with 2304 Stream Processors

8GB GDDR5 VRAM

1545MHz base clock - which should put the clockspeed 15% higher than RX 580

 

We don't know pricing or availability although presumably the card will launch imminenmtly and so we can definitely expect it before the end of this year.

It does appear that the Radeon RX590 will indeed be a refresh of Polaris architecture (judging from 2000 MHz/8Gbps memory clock).

We are not sure what will happen to AREZ brand, but the ROG STRIX model is clearly in the works, so the ‘GPP brand’ might be axed soon.

I'm definitely hoping for 1700MHz ish boost clock although we have no idea how awesome this new node is.

 

Presumably TDP will remain similar to (if not a tiny bit lower than) RX 580 due to more efficient node but also higher clocks.

 

I'm not surprised AMD waited this long to launch it but I'm glad that Nvidia's scared of it even though I really wouldn't be scared of it if I was them .

 

I'd also expect either price drops of RX 580s and RX 570s or for the RX 580 to be discontinued with the RX 590 replacing it at the same price.

Anybody with a 480 or 580 has no need to upgrade to an RX 590.

 

The only people i'd recommend upgrading to an RX 590 are owners of R9 380(X), R9 390(X) and R9 290(X) owners or owners of equivalent Nvidia cards.

There honestly shouldn't be much of a boost from the R9 390X or 390. The R9 390X is about on par with the RX 580.

This isn't a question of need, its a question of want. I guess I could go a few more weeks before I impulse buy one and the tell myself that the performance is sooo much better when its really just a placebo and not worth the money

Not really.

 

Older titles definitely perform identically on both a 580 and 390X but some very new games (think 2016 and newer games) which love Tesselation and other things will do better on the 580.

Those are some nice spec bumps. I bet it's gonna be $249-$299 and then Nvidia will release the 1060 again for the 10000 time

Even on newer titles, everything I have seen myself, show the 580 edging out by typically a few frames, with the gap widening a little with the 390. You very well may be right though, so I'm not gonna say you are wrong.

Too bad they couldn't add faster memory to go with the clock speed increase.

they are still going about this the wrong way, faster memory should have been the number 1 priority, it would help quite a bit to have faster ram, and now at these clocks, it will be a Really bottlenecked by that memory, hopefully the memory controller overclocks better at the very least factory overclocked vram would also help but for some reason aibs seem to run away from that
