hi, I am trying to recover corrupted data on my hard drive (i believe it was FAT32), i was having problems where if my shift key was held down, the rest of my keyboard buttons wouldn't work, so i restarted Windows, when i restarted windows i couldn't see my hard drive in my file explorer, so I booted up NUIBI partition editor, and it saw the drive but it said it was unformatted, so i installed EaseUS data recovery wizard and scanned it, it found all the files, so I'm assuming that whatever tells the OS what format the drive is got corrupted or removed, i tired to recover my data but EaseUS tried to make me pay, and of course, i don't want to pay $50 for something i will only use once in the span of the subscription, so i am wondering, is there any other tools that i can use that are free (or like around $5) that i can use to recover my data?

DiskGenius is a free multitool for harddrives and ssd, although I haven't tested the file recovering myself so I have no experience on it.

CrystalDiskInfo is a free tool to check the health of your drives. Use that and post a screenshot of the SMART table to this thread if you can, so we can see if there are any errors on it.

FAT32 is like really old, pre-XP Windows filesystem. How old is your harddrive and your pc?

Unfortunately, Just about every data recovery app, including DiskGenius, in my signature,  is free to download, scan, and view the files, but it costs if you want to restore them.

There are some file recovery apps, that are not at all user friendly that are free which I have no luck with. Here is one from the Microsoft Store

https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9n26s50ln705?hl=en-us&gl=US

Whatever app you end up using, you have to restore to a different drive then the one your are trying to recover.

The reason this happened is because the SSD/HDD is about to fail and needs to be replaced. As stated, you can test the health of the drive by Downloading Crystal Disk Info, also in my signature. View the SMART Info of the drive. If it is anything less then Good, it needs to be replaced.

Recuva is great for accidentally deleted files, but it is not helpful in recovering from a lost partition, like the OP's.

Great!  Now pay for a Data Recovery app and restore your data to another drive.

This would be a good time for you to Backup your drive, if it is a Data Drive to the Cloud or another drive, or to make an Image File using a 3rd party app that the image is saved to another drive.

I believe Easeus allows you 1GB of data restored for free. But most people have GB's or even TB's of data to recover.

It all depends on how valuable your data is to you if you want to pay to recover it.

To avoid this in the future, always backup your files to another drive and or Cloud Service.
