Nvidia unveils and gives away Limited Edition Titan V CEO Edition Graphics Card with 32GB HBM2

If you're a CEO or a C level executive, Nvidia Volta is just unbeatable this summer holiday season . 

 

 

Or at least that's what Nvidia wants you to think with their new limited edition Titan V CEO Edition with 32GB of High Bandwidth Memory 2.0 .

 

This is not a retail product and Nvidia have already given 20 units of this card away.

In recent years the CEO has unveiled both the NVIDIA Titan X (Pascal) and the NVIDIA Titan Vin this fashion. According to NVIDIA, the aptly named SKU is apparently a “limited edition” product, and unlike past Huang reveals, NVIDIA has not sent out any announcements of a new product. So for the moment, this is not a retail product and is not immediately expected to become one. None the less, this is an unusual development as the new Titan V SKU is not simply a Titan V with additional memory, but rather has some notable configuration differences that set it apart from the regular Titan V

 

You might be wondering if this is even a new card or just a re-badged Titan V with 32GB of HBM2.

 

And you'd be mostly correct except for the changes required to make this card possible.

 

Changes over the Titan V include:

• 4096 Bit Memory Bus with Up To 900GB/s Bandwidth (vs 3072 bit for Titan V)
• 32GB of HBM 2.0 (vs 12GB for the Titan V)
• 33% more ROPs - 128 on limited edition vs 96 for Titan V
• 50% larger L2 cache - 6MB on limited edition vs 4.5MB for Titan V
• Up To 125 TFlops Deep learning Tensor Performance - vs 110 Tflops for Titan V

 

So yeah, cool stuff although I'm surprised Nvidia went to this much effort to make a limited edition card.

In fact memory capacity aside, thanks to these changes there will almost certainly be meaningful (though not necessarily large) performance differences between it and the regular Titan V in any kind of memory bandwidth-bound scenario. As an added wrinkle, of the handful of specifications that NVIDIA’s blog post does cover, they list the new card as offering 125 TFLOPS of tensor core performance, whereas the retail Titan V is 110 TFLOPS. It’s not clear how NVIDIA gets this number, but importantly, it means that there may be further clockspeed or SM configuration changes that have yet to be revealed by NVIDIA.

It's actually basically a renamed Tesla V100 32GB HBM2 PCI-E edition.

 

The GV100 chip has more enabled SMs and Tensor Cores than this limited edition card and the Titan V.

hmm techpowerup shows that both have same number of CUDA and Tensor cores. They only differ by the Quadro having a lower memory clock which lowers memory bandwidth as a result.

That's not yet confirmed. It's possible that nvidia enabled the rest or some of the SMs that were disabled in the original Titan V. That extra 15 deep learning TFlops definitely is a result of a clock speed increase but it's possible higher SM count is also a contributing factor.

You guys are confusing each other . In @AluminiumTech's initial statement they said

Keyword is GV100 chip, not quadro GV100. The actual GV100 GPU does in factor have 5376 CUDA cores; however, we are yet to see a product that has all of these enabled. The Quadro GV100 has some of these disabled and so has 5120 CUDA cores.

When Aluminum is saying GV100 I think they meant the actual gpu die, but you were referring to the actual quadro gpu which unfortunately uses the same name.

 

Honestly nvidia should've called it the Quadro v100 instead. Or just something else entirely. Super confusing.
