Yup, that's kinda shitty

 

After Jan Koum left the company last Monday others, especially facebook executives seem to be interested in monetising WhatsApp.

Now we don't know what "more open" means exactly (baners, direct messages containing ads?!)

"We're now going to have the ability to enable larger companies, not only small businesses, to integrate a new API [application programming interface] to send and receive messages with people on the Whatsapp platform," he added.

Sounds hella annoying.

 

I personally wish they had just left it as a paid app in the first place but I guess that isn't enough. If you can't tell I'm kinda pissed off.

yeah i would have prefered if we could pay, back in the day it was 99 cents per year anyway.

 

Maybe they'll put that option back for no ads but since it's facebook... they won't bother, ads make a lot more money than 99 cents/year.

 

i wish i could say time to ditch whatsapp but nope, pretty sure most of my contacts will stick to it.

Fuuuck, the worst part is people from familty that dont even know shit about privacy or how to change an app its so sad, i want to get rid of all these spy apps but i cant, technophobic people that i need to talk to keep me locked down, we need a revolution of some sorts, seems like cambridge analytica scandal had 0 effect on ignorant people and i have to face consequences of their ignorance

 

This means that 100% of your data collected in the past will now be used at least for ads time to uninstall whats app.

Signal on Android can entirely replace your default messaging app as it is able to send unencrypted messages to people without the app. Last I heard, the iOS app doesn't send unencrypted messages unfortunately.

Is why I use SMS. I don't care to have more than one messaging application in use. SMS is universal enough where I can communication with everyone I need to from one app.

Either way you would be also paying with your data. Facebook's business is data and it could be expected that they will use WhatsApp as a platform for obtaining more. We have seen it once before that Facebook's "private" messaging service was not as private as it seemed.

God, yes do it, this way people might realize there better alternatives that a fucken chat app that is locked to your phone number and the phone itself, whatsapp web and desktop is just a proxy to your phone, everyone has their phones at hand all the time but for those few time you don't its a useless service.

 

Glad they fixed this but up until 2 or 3 years ago your phone died and everything was gone with it.

yeah my work also uses discord. It's "free" & easy to use, really.

It's exactly like Facebook but the only people on it are the people the owner invites.

I think he has more money than he can reasonably could spend, the main reason for this strategy would be to appease investors after the Cambridge Analytica issue - more profits generally mean happy investors.

I've read an article somewhere that fb can't possibly keep their enormous growth rate because they would run out of people in a few years lol.

This is probably just one of many measures taken to keep shareholders happy

All they will have to do to keep the money rolling is lease out all their data to the NSA, they would pay dearly for such vast quantities of data (if they don't already have access to it).
