Now this is one actual legit reasons I can see videos being viable, thank you.

Ignorant of me to ask, but what makes firearms so beloved to watch for you? Mostly Americans I assume, might be wrong.

As someone who has a long working history with firearms, the only thing I watch on YouTube for firearms is the occasional competition. I like skeet and trap, and watch videos to become better at that. I also like 3 gun competitions (although pistols are nearly illegal where I live).

Ignorant of me to ask, but why does Twitch! exist? What makes watching some douchebag playing CS:GO so beloved for others to watch? Mostly American teenagers I assume, might be wrong too.

Now I feel a little bad for my sarcastic undertone. lol. Maybe I should've waited a minute. (I just got out of lecture and bombed a midterm, so I do apologize if I came across as a little upset. Not directed at you)

Wow, so much "OMG NO MORE GUNS ON THE YOUTUBES!!!"

YouTube prohibits certain kinds of content featuring firearms. Specifically, we don’t allow content that

-Intends to sell firearms or certain firearms accessories through direct sales (e.g., private sales by individuals) or links to sites that sell these items. These accessories include but may not be limited to accessories that enable a firearm to simulate automatic fire or convert a firearm to automatic fire (e.g., bump stocks, gatling triggers, drop-in auto sears, conversion kits), and high capacity magazines (i.e., magazines or belts carrying more than 30 rounds).

-Provides instructions on manufacturing a firearm, ammunition, high capacity magazine, homemade silencers/suppressors, or certain firearms accessories such as those listed above. This also includes instructions on how to convert a firearm to automatic or simulated automatic firing capabilities.

-Shows users how to install the above-mentioned accessories or modifications.

I also used to watch FPS Russia's videos on shooting guns, don't remember why, but haven't done it for a half a decade now.

Someone mentioned stress reliever to me in person as well, so I can kinda see that. But my question is that isn't there anything else to relieve your stress, that don't include firearms?

There is, at least for me personally since I play the drums :D

However for some people there might not be something else. And either way, if the video in itself is harmless (doesn't teach how to shoot at people, doesn't shoot at people or animals and doesn't suggest), then let people have that I say.

The ban on videos that sell firearms / etc is odd imo. though not out of line with Google's previous policies. Ultimately it's not a "ban on guns" like people have been suggesting.

These aren't nearly as similar to make the same conclusion. Video games are for entertainment, guns are for protection.

Aspiring gunsmiths use the videos to introduce themselves to the machining basics of precision rifle building. There is a LOT of math that goes into rifle-making before the first round is sent down range. There's also a host of new techniques, new tools, or new products that gunsmiths demonstrate on youtube to not only make the viewer's product better or safer, but also informs the buying public that these tools and education exist for them to shop around with. a more educated buyer is better off knowing they exist! These would all fall under making of a firearm.

Also, YT bans the dissemination of how to make ammunition. So no more reloading videos or education. that could lead to some VERY serious accidents.

This is a slippery slope YT is on. ANYTHING could be next, in the name of WHATEVER. Someone at YT is a rabid environmentalist.. *POOF!* there goes every automotive modification video. no more racing videos.no more race tire, fuel, carburetion, exhaust, turbo product videos because they harm the environment.

Nah, it always hits a little heavy on the first wave, and then finds some level of balance down the road. Gun content creators may have a bit of extra work contesting if any of their videos get removed that don't violate the terms in the meantime, but it is what it is

Guns can also for entertainment. Shooting people or animals is for protection. Your assumption of single use is ignorant. Are cars only for transportation?

here's another thing. "covert a firearm ... to simulated automatic fire.

so a video showing your finger in the trigger guard or explaining that a finger is all that is needed to simulate that function of the slide fire rifle stock will not be allowed on youtube.

one video disussing the function of a bumpstock will get the account a flag.

one video talking about the unnessecary presence of a bump stock will get a flag.

firearm not needed to be present for video. just the discussion is enough to get the video black-flagged.

I've seen worse aired on Twitch and I'm fairly sure public servants are an exception to that rule, Bounty Hunters regularly stream on Twitch along with some police officers.

This is great news!

if you're serious, how would you feel if violent depictions of simulated environments (eg. CS:GO, The Division, Fallout4, GTA, etc) were removed from youtube as well, and those accounts deleted?

Linus would no longer be able to show firestrike benchmarks in his videos

I better delete my video of an Easter egg in Wolfenstein: The New Order, and all my tf2 videos! Because it's so "violent".

Sigh, I hate when one side decides to demonize another side for practicing or wanting to have the ability to eventually practice their constitutional rights and when either both sides or one side demonizes an entertainment media for being "violent" and shit.

Question as I am a work and the article won't open. Is youtube removing videos with that content or demonetizing?

Insanity is not the absence of sanity, but the willingness to ignore it for a purpose. Chaos is the result of this choice. I relish in both.

I see everyone assuming YT is doing this to "control" us somehow... but I think it's more likely a simple business decision to avoid costly lawsuits. In today's litigation insane world where the public wants to sue and lay blame for everything even their own bad decisions, companies like YT have to protect themselves and their revenue stream.

I also think claims of censorship are too strong... this is not a free public service... they own what they do and have the right to control the content on it. If this was a public service paid for by tax dollars, I can see an outcry when they control what they allow.

I would prefer that they allow all content to be honest... but I can understand why they would want to limit some things.

which is fine, but then you have what is called a shock and awe site. "This content is so strong even YOUTUBE banned it!" will become a narrative for future legislation.
