@birdhumanWell... I don't think this laptop is old, but I also have two HP EliteBook 8470p, which are quite similar, but with 14" screens. This "mini PCIE has an adapter to switch to a M.2 slot but 2230 standard" I find interesting. My laptops have two mini PCIe slots, one for the smaller cards and one for the bigger, so I have one free slot (might be something interesting to try out). Both my laptops have SSDs in them instead of the HDD, but I've kept the DVD drives since I use them more than I would use the extra space replacing them with HDDs (full specs of both in my signature), but I don't consider them old enough to post pictures of here. I'd get a 4 core 8 thread i7 (like yours) for the laptop I use for university (one of the 8470p I use for univeristy and I take it with me there, the other one stays at my grandparents' house), but they are hard to find and expensive.

It's the longest old PC still in use. I cannot find any new ones as solid as his tough one and also extendable laptop now.

Would have loved to put this back in use but no more AGP :*( been rocking this thing until last year. VGA fan failed so i just strapped on this case fan with a fan speed controller and a siren so it starts screaming if the fan dies and made sure to fill all the gaps around the fan with hot glue so all the air gets pushed through the fins under the shroud making a way better cooling than it was originally

I have that one too working in my PC! Although it hasn't been working well because when I updated to Windows 10 I wasn't able to find drivers for it...

The Vista-turned-7 dual-PIII XP rig replacement is finally done. Was just waiting on the FM1 at the end to steal its nice light-blue bracket and CPU fan since the yellow bracket is ugly and I didn't have a 70mm fan. The FM1 board in question has an A4 3300 (though I'd absolutely love to get an A6 3650 for it) and 4GB of 1333 CLsomething from G.SKILL (would also like to double that amount). But this board will have to wait for its time to be the focus of a moneypit project.

Ah yeah I remember NFS Underground 2. I played the crap out of that, had a steering wheel and pedals at the time too. I think I ran it on an All-in-Wonder 9600XT 128mb. Good times, gotta fire that up again I think 🤔

G'day All,

I wasn't sure of the right place to post this (Let me know if I need to move this post).

After spending way too much on hardware over the years I decided to turn it into framed art when it stopped working.

Specs of Artwork:

AMD FX60

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe

Corsair CMX1024-4400PRO x 2

P.S. I wish I still had the graphics cards this machine had, 2 x XFX GeForce 7950 GX2. Oh how I missed those Power draw warning messages.....

PCI PhysX card, now with MX-4 thermal paste and a new fan!
It used up the last of my MX-4, but I do have some Silver 5.

Just needed to clear out the gunk at the tip of the tube, and it works fine.

Anyway, here ya go!

So I've just given up on getting everything to run on the side piece and have decided that (for the time being) I'll just deal with jankily setting this up when I want to play one of the games that doesnt work. As such, this will be the focus of my next project: A Gigabyte A55M-DS2 with an A4 3300 and 4GB of 1333CL9 RAM. Ultimately I'd like to get an ML03B for it, a different cooler, maybe double the RAM? and absolutely get an A6 3650. I'd also try and get some sort of 5.25" thing that lets me use a slimline DVD drive and at least one hotswap 2.5" drive, but just one that doesn't have extra USB I can't use and also isn't obnoxiously priced.

I also just find it amusing as hell how fast this boots thanks to the magic of the Momentus 5400.6 I plan on using for XP (and I'm sure AHCI helps instead of just being in IDE mode).

(yes, this monitor is beat to hell because it has fucky power delivery so it just sits on the floor of my closet catching everything that falls, it's had a long life)

I've been starting to get a few things together, and have a few processors to send off once I get some video cards together too. DSC_5676.thumb.JPG.a412425ae0887a4f590248d88c6f12b1.JPG

I've also been working on getting my Thinkpad T43p set up and loaded with games. Running Windows XP Pro on it and have gotten Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed and Need for Speed Underground 2 up and running so have been playing those a bit the last couple evenings as time allows.

The T43 series is quite nice in my opinion but it has some flaws too. Someone donated a T43 and I really love the fantastic build quality and keyboard (although the lack of a Windows key is a bit annoying sometimes). The Thinklight is also pretty fun to use. However, I'd strongly recommend mounting a few pieces of copper sheeting to the northbridge and southbridge--the northbridge doesn't have a heatsink on it as it's right under the nipple pointer, and the southbridge is trapped under the network card, which in itself gets pretty hot. The Thinkpad wiki has a few guides on how to do these modifications. Surprisingly, the card slot appears to also be an air intake for the T43 so using it as a SB heatsink works quite well.

Hmm good to know, I'll have to look into that. Not sure if that would be any different between the regular t43 and the t43p either, I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the T43p 🙂

Also have a T40 I've been setting up with Windows 2000 and a T42p I setup much the same as the t43p. I love the keyboards on these old thinkpads and have been able to order new/refurb batteries for them too which is pretty nice. They're cheap too, with shipping I got a new 6 cell battery for the t43p for about $35cdn

Did a bit more work on my P3 build.

A. Testing out new fan heat dissipation on PhysX PPU

B. Swapping jumper cables for CD audio for real audio cable (80% of it, at least)

C. Adding a fan since GPU heat sink is tiny

Heat dissipation is great. Fan is a bit noisy, but it's only noticeable if you're actively listening to it. The heat sink feels noticeably warm.

While testing the audio cable between the optical drive and the sound card, I was struck by how good it sounds. I was using my headset to remove all possible variables (like 4.1 sound setup vs. AIO speaker), and I couldn't hear a difference.

Kinda curious now - @BrianTheElectrician, how much did you pay for this (if you bought it new)? It's going for ~$15 on eBay, but that seems really low.

Side note, while testing the CD on my Ryzen build, I have a new nitpick on Windows.

For playing audio CDs, you still have to use Media Player!
Microsoft, just kill Groove Music already and go back to WMP. Groove sucks and WMP is much nicer to use.
