Hello,

I have 64GB memory and task manager reports 64% usage, but If I add up the process list, it's no where close to it.. I can find about 4-5GB out of 40GB in use... where can I find a list of everything ?

I added some screenshots.

task manager is running as administrator

thanks

Services , drivers, use memory which will not be shown in the list of processes.

The unused RAM is used by Windows to cache files for example if you start watching a movie, Windows may read a few hundred of megabytes in a burst and keep it in ram, so that the disk won't be accessed constantly reading small chunks as you watch the movie. It does the same for DLL files (for example the .NET runtime, commonly accessed executables, font files, music you listen to)

Caching in advances may allow the hard drive to go to sleep and save power and it also works backwards ... if a drive was put to sleep, programs won't feel like they're frozen because try writing stuff to drive and drive needs time to wake up from sleep.

is there a way to see the 36GB cached memory usage? like what files?

RamMap is a pretty cool program for this

thanks!

one more thing about used resources, is there a program that I will see usage of GP/ CPU  that isn't shown in task manager?

for example, I'm running ffmpeg encoding on WSL and I see GPU is under 80% usage in task manager, but it doesn't show any program that takes these resources.

Hello again,

my memory usage is on 94% at the moment , is there a way for me to "clear" it or something without restarting or preventing windows in advance to use so much of the memory for file caching as it was suggest here?

see screenshot from RamMap and task manager:
