To who ever provided me with the boardview files for my vaga repair
Thank you
This is now back online (at last) and is running smoothly
now to code up a solution so that I can get the system to auto finish and start individual slots depending on time and day of the week

Glad to hear you got it going again and it wasn’t a die issue.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

if i also had an electric car it would bankrubt me pretty quick.

one thing that bothers me immensely is that i'm not allowed solar panels or some kind of home battery system where i now live. So we are definitely looking to move houses soon to a place with less regulation and i'll be installing solar and some kind of powerwall-like battery system asap.

Here in Norway we sometimes get negative wholesale electricity prices; it's -2,62EUR/MWh for a while today for example. Rarely does it actually get negative to consumer though because transmission fees also need to be paid. I also have central heat pump heating and water, so my electricity bill is made up only folding, lights and the fridge.

You might consider something like a Jackery or building yourself a "solar generator" that you can easily take with you and then integrate as a UPS later in the new place.  That way it isn't considered part of the current house, nor an install that an HOA can say anything about.  A couple renting down the street from me runs most of their house off of a bluetti (sp?) solar generator and a couple normal panels propped up on strut (instead of the overpriced portable ones that are branded for more portability), just to spite the electric utility company (the owner of the place wouldn't have any problems with them doing an actual install).

Just want to take a moment to thank you for writing this up, I'd missed it earlier this year. I've been wanting to automate folding on my machines for a while, but hadn't found anything too promising through some high-level searching and was putting off the effort of deep diving on it. I just finished setting up and testing the crontab, and now I can fold more often and spend less money (Which is great -- my last electric bill broke $300...) because I can guarantee it'll run in off-peak hours.

Your welcome. I decided a few years ago to move from running my rigs at maximum throughput to running them at maximum efficiency both in terms of PPD/W and PPD/$. It’s better for the wallet and the environment.

Gets me thinking, what is the slowest card that can still fold? My GTX 650 was pretty bad years ago. Well under 250K PPD and it almost caught a PC on fire when the molex to PCIe melted.

I used to use a gtx 750 since 2017 until last year to fold while gaming on my main gpu (first 980ti then rtx 2060) and it worked fine, then I got a 3070ti and could finally fold on the 2060 while gaming (2 gpus in my normal gaming pc, one dedicated to folding while I game)

I've been trying for 6+ years to get my setup up and running, at first it was a 980ti + gtx 770, then I gave the 770 to a friend for a gtx 750, then the 980ti died so I had to get an rtx 2060 KO, kept folding with the 750, and then finally got a 3070ti and set the 2060 to fold to actually get a proper PPD amount. Now the problem is to find a new mATX motherboard with a top 16x and bottom 16x slot to upgrade to (probably AMD 8000 series) so I can keep folding with the same mATX case that I love

Getting ready for the event!

Managed to get the NIC in-between the first two GPUs, so now I can fit a 3rd. I had to order a custom IO bracket for the top GPU to make it single slot tho.

And I also got a EPYC 7742, 64 cores! Strangely it came with a threadripper style carrier frame?

All left to do now is wait for the watercooling parts for the second 4070Ti to arrive and I'll be ready to go. Its shaping up to be the highest production event ever for me!

I've also been working on getting things ready for Folding Month. Right now I've got a few cards up and running, including a GTX 1080 (with annoyingly loud fans), an RTX 2070 (more on this below), and an RTX 2070 Super. The 2070S and 1080 combined get an estimated 4.5M PPD. I'm pretty pleased with that number, especially since those two cards only draw around 300-350W together. Certainly nowhere near the best for efficiency, but not bad for cards that are several years old.

The regular 2070 is also back in action, and I'm glad it still works. This card stopped working a couple months ago after a brief power outage. It would still output a signal, but the clock speed was stuck at 300MHz, and nothing I tried would fix it in that machine. I moved the card into my primary machine, and now it seems to be working fine. I'll need to find somewhere to install my pair of Quadro P4000 cards that were in my main machine, but that'll be a task for later. For now I'm happy with the cards that are running.

Phobos: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB 3000MHz DDR4, ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, 1TB Samsung SSD 980, 450W Corsair CXM, Corsair Carbide 175R, Windows 10 Pro

Out of curiosity, what's everyone's current PPDs, and what do y'all think you'll be doing by the time Folding Month hits?

I'm doing ~20M combined on dual 2080 Tis, a 2070 Super, and an RTX A2000. I might be able to do 35M if I'm not only able to get that liquid-cooled 3090 but jank up a loop and rig so I can run both it and the 2080 Tis.

Will see 😉

Not much of a Gamer….. But I have thing about F@H that may be a little over the top.   See my builds here

Any idea about when the event will start?

I've sold off a lot of my extra PC gear as I've been trying to downsize. Only have one GPU folding these days, and been folding for my own team. But I have a T600 doing nothing I'll probably spin up for folding month. Maybe run my main desktop PC some if it's cold enough outside.

So I'm not sure what was going on. It seems the GPU went into some low power state or something. Somewhere around 60W and then snapped out of it when I turned on the monitor. It's been fine ever since and is now only 2h from completing that same WU. 🤷‍♂️
