What headset are you using?
It sounds like it's wired which means it is plugging into either the motherboard or the front panel connectors. Is that true?
If so, my guess is that the audio driver got corrupted. You can try running SFC/DISM

But the better option would be to find what motherboard you have, go to the manufacturer product page for it, find Downloads (sometimes under Support), and download the audio drivers from there (probably Realtek Audio Drivers). Install those and reboot.
