Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Yes it's a FWD, but an awesome one :). Good car to learn to drive stick shift, pretty bulletproof transmission as far as I know. Just go easy on the turbo if the engine is still cold, and never turn it off while the turbo is still glowing hot. Let it idle for a minute or two.

Wait, I do have one question: what are the chances of me killing the engine (or damaging it, or the transmission going bang) if I money shift it? Not sure if that's the proper term, but I heard it somewhere...

Money shifting is really hard to do from what I've heard. Just don't go slamming into another gear like you're Steve McQueen and you'll be fine.

Though if you do manage to....

Well I get to replace the rear-end leafs and u-bolts on my 97. I decided to run actual 11" Goodyear racing slicks last night for the first time and to say they stick is an understatement. I guess it'll be time for building up the rear suspension, as I blew out the left leaf spring last night when I launched. It entirely tweaked it to the point it pulled the drive shaft off the tranny yolk and snapped the parking brake cable.

this is after getting it back to the "pit" area (grassy parking).

Why did he choose black for it? Couldn't he choose a more boring and over used color?

Those slicks grip up hard? By the looks of it, they don't seem like it, like those look at least 20 year old tires.

Lol those were spares from clear back when I first got the truck. I took the slicks off before going onto the grass. Probably should have clarified that. I brought them with me just in case something happened and needed a filler tire for whatever reason.

Tbh, I'm a bit affraid of the C2's only because of the driving position... Not sure how they are...

I really really need to test drive a shit load of cars before buying one tho.

That's actually pretty good.

Oh, and current bid on Ebay is at 55k USD.

More reliable than both of those tbf

Only 106s id have over it is either a GTI or a Rallye, but they damn expensive

Basically lol. It's an excuse to tell the wife to get a four link! Well I did warm them up but I underestimated how much they grip afterwards though. I do find it funny that the axles didn't break before the dang leaf and ubolts gave though.

Stupid question (or is it?), are those rare or something, or do they just hold their value very well? I mean, Volvos are built like tanks IIRC...

I am not familiar with that term.  Does that refer to shifting without disengaging the clutch?

Damn, I really hope that by the time I'm 16 my parents won't have sold our 1998 Volvo S70 T5. I wanna learn to drive a stick shift (as in, I know how I just want to do it "full time"). The only thing that sucks about it is it's FWD I believe. But damn, I watched some videos on YouTube, and a straight pipe, turbocharged inline 5 sounds pretty damn good.

Also sorry if I sound retarded. I know a bit about cars, but not that much. Like, I know how an engine works, and know the differences between, say, a 4 stroke engine and a 2 stroke one, or a boxer 4 and inline 4, but I'm still learning. Please understand that.

EDIT: I also fucking love sleepers. If anyone has any cool pictures or videos, please feel free to share them!

Stick is fun (was deployed and all the vehicles where stick shift).  Lets just say, we had some fun with a Land Cruiser and a hill.  :P  Plus, all those dirt roads in the desert.

Though, darn thing stalled and battery lost cranking amps.  Go figure, I was the only one who knew how to pop clutch off first gear to fire up the engine (yeah, all the dudes felt bad that a gal knew how to do it that but not them).

When learning stick, just take the time to feel the gears out and learn how that specific vehicle shifts.

Well the axles are probably rated for more power and grip, so they're probably used to the power?? idk, but i guess your suspension is your weak link here maybe get a drag suspension setup then lol

I've replaced the axle shafts and diff but I wouldn't have thought the leaf would have gave that easily. Ya I'm already looking at putting a four link I just don't want to lose ride quality.

Moneyshifting is a term for a very aggressive downshift i.e. the engine is forced to run above it's rev-limiter. Depending on length and severity damage can differ from zero (although that would not be a "money"-shift anymore) to catastrophic engine failure (broken conrods, damaged pistons, damaged valves, etc.)

It is pretty hard to moneyshift if you're being careful. When you start to drive stickshift, become familiar with the shifting patterns before you actually start driving. Make sure the car is on handbrake, just press the clutch all the way in and start to shift through the gears. 1-2-3-4-5 | 5-4-3-2-1. Don't force the stick too much, it should just "click" into position. Repeat that until you feel comfortable doing it with your eyes closed.

I assume you have someone near you when you start learning. Have that person name different gears while you shift into those gears. Then start to practice the most used shift combinations that aren't lined up: 2-3 | 3-2 , 4-5 | 5-4. Repeat all this over and over again until you can row through the gears without missing one.

Once you feel comfortable shifting, take the car for a ride, just be gentle with it. Slowly (but not to slow) engage the clutch when you shift to get a feeling for it. Pick it up from there

Maybe double wishbone suspension so it can handle?
