Yeah, the powersliding i can do (i do that a lot in street legal racing redline), but keeping that momentum can be a bit tricky.

1991 Nissan 240SX. Do you know I"m talking about the latest Mythbusters episode?

good cars for a motor swap, but that ka24 that they come with is absolute garbage imo.

Very. At the very least, a CA18DET should be bare minimum. They should have gone for a full out SR20DET, but judging by the state of the car at the end of the episode, i would see why they didn't. I mean the KA24 got trashed at the end.

an sr20 is one of the best motors for a 240. Allot lighter than a v8 or inline 6's and it can still make a ton of power. ka24's have quite the reputation for spectacular failures haha.

And my dad told me that S13s overall are very cramped inside, so i'm avoiding those altogether, and those are the only S chassis cars really common in my area. Everything else is either crap or rusted out. Would be nice to see an S15 powered by an RB28.

Every time i see colored smoke, the first word that pops in my head is ricer. It's just it looks like something a ricer would do, but of course, ricers don't know how to burn out.

i dont think the average ricer could afford those tires haha.

OR they have some clever solution that "dumps" smoke behind the rear tires when doing "burnouts". But most ricers drive FWD cars, so it's pointless.

My Asian dad refuses not to get a car that isn't Japanese. Here is what he thinks of car's from major car continents:

Japanese: AWESOME, GOOD PRICE, GOOD EVERYSING.

European: Unreliable, expensive, wiper/light stalk on wrong side.

American: Shit, unreliable, cannot corner, American.

Australian: Fords and Holdens are shit.

Fucking hell, I keep telling him that he should get a Grand Cherokee CRD but he's all like no, it's American, so it can't handle for shit, will move like a rock and is has a clunky American engine. Then I recommend the Volvo XC60, he actually doesn't hate it as much as every other European car, but it doesn't have the boot space our current SUV has (609l/21.5ft2). Then the Range Rover Discovery sport, he goes on about how it'll be really shit and will break after a few weeks, and how the price is going to be so high for what it is...

Oh, and he blabs on about how all of those SUV's (except the GC) are going to be shit off-road, while the most off-roading he's done is drive in some snow and drive on a beach. Oh, and yeah - he had a little meeting with a rock: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=2807515721437

The urge to do things to my golf is getting stronger..

But this is a big heavy wagon with lots of sound dampening and a 1,6l engine we're talking about.. Even a small modification would make it balance on the edge of OK and rice..

Even if i chiptune it it'll only have 120bhp. So it won't be fast enough to warrant many exterior mods. And an exhaust would probably sound good.. But seems ridiculous..

I could add some new rims. But the stock ones already look good enough.. Uuuuurgh.. But this is what i wanted. A car that is pointless to mod.. Damn it

From what I have seen, Evo's and Sti's aren't really big hitters in those tests. They have the sort of racer boy image. Not the sophisticated image of a BMW or Merc.

That's hardly a bias it they are just going by brand names. Models would be way too broad of a sample.

I agree. Hoon cars don't really impress most ladies that I know (most of them don't enjoy driving too, but they like nice cars).

Hardly a rebadged Toyota.

I guess it depends

The current Lexus models are no longer rebadge jobs as Lexus is now a global brand. In the past, Toyota had luxury vehicles branded as Toyota in Asia and badged as Lexus models in North America and Europe (like how Infiniti is). Nowadays, we have Lexus badges everywhere for the luxury products and Toyota for the mainstream products (and some luxury models that sell well under the Toyota badge). Scion is purely for North America at this point though.

Like Lexus and Infiniti, Acura started in North America. It is following their lead in globalizing the brand, however (they are starting to launch the brand outside of North America).

So, I finished watching the latest Mythbusters episode on my DVR, and damn, was it good. Especially since it was devoted to drifting, my most favorite motorsport racing type. Surprised how hard it actually looks. I thought it would be easy, but it's just really complicated.

Starting the slide is easy in most RWD cars with no/defeatable traction control. It's keeping it tidy throughout the course that needs skill. A car that responds consistently is definitely a big help.

And have a feel for the steering and the gas to have a controlled drift along with keeping revs up.

It takes a lot of skills to do it the smooth flawless way the professionals do it. Powersliding isn't hard but true drifting is all finesse.

Drift drivers are one thing, as they just like showing off car control. It's still fun though.

I prefer old-style 4 wheel drifts (popular with old bias ply race cars and stage rally cars). It just feels natural if the car is well balanced and driven properly at the limits. Based on experience it's so much easier on-road (needs more speed to initiate but a lot easier to control) versus off-road (the car doesn't lose much momentum while sliding, so the entry speed is critical). I got off the road twice being stupid and doing high speed 4 wheel drifts in an unfamiliar dirt road when I was younger.

good cars for a motor swap, but that ka24 that they come with is absolute garbage imo.

The KA24s are very hardy imo. They just don't make a lot of power, as they are primarily workhorse engines (they are fitted on compact trucks and MPVs outside of North America).

And my dad told me that S13s overall are very cramped inside, so i'm avoiding those altogether, and those are the only S chassis cars really common in my area. Everything else is either crap or rusted out. Would be nice to see an S15 powered by an RB28.

I am 6'4" and I fit inside the S chassis cars (I even fit inside MX-5s). Room is tighter than comparably-sized FWD cars because of the transmission tunnel, but that's about it (leg space is actually longer than Hondas of the era, just narrower). The Silvia rear seats are useless though, so think of them as 2-seater cars with cushioned cargo areas.

In the words of Macklemore!

"I call that getting swindled and pimped

I call that getting tricked by a business"

Just because toyota realised we were onto their scam and stopped dual badging doesn't change anything.

A toyota is a toyota no matter what badge is on the trunk.
