Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

It's almost blizzard status here. kinda scary driving, but also really fun.

Thankfully the snow has fucked off over here. Now we just have strong winds (That make highway driving interesting..)

The #66 and #67 cars faced several teething issues in their first outing out. Broken pneumatic actuators in the gearboxes, electrical gremlins, and a few other small things that Multimatic couldn't realistically figure out in their limited testing at Calabogie and CTMP. Daytona is always an invaluable learning experience, and I'm sure CGR learned a thing or two over the combined 1400 laps they completed (+ the additional powertrain development from the #01 and #02 Ford-Riley Ecoboost DPs). Hopefully info gets relayed and implemented quickly before the next race at Sebring and to the team running in the WEC.

No doubt the current cars aren't fast when they are working though. For over 12 hours, they held the fastest lap for the entire GT field (#67 had done a 1:44.3 in the first stint) and it wasn't until the sun rose that the rest of the competition started going faster and doing consistent 1:44s. Straight-line speed was on par with the 911 RSRs and at times were challenging them on pace. From the team radio feeds, the GTs were also the best in the speed tracks so clearly the aero is working.

One of the things i've been considering for the 190E project i've had on the backburner for a while now is this kind of canopy arrangement.

309330c4791fb67132499af373c8e705.jpg
(Just the opening part and the bit behind the pilot. The front will be the 190E windshield)
With some modifications to make it work on a two seater. With one on either side.

Toyed with the idea of removing the passenger side entirely. But passengers are fun
And also toyed with the idea of having the exhaust pipes poke out through the side. But that would be illegal :/

Now i just need 30K to start the damn project

My ST was supposed to leave there this morning. How is it? I've been keeping an eye on the radar.

EDIT: Literally seconds after I posted this the dealer called me to say they pushed back picking up the car until Thursday morning.

yeah, I'm in the twin cities. it's getting worse as time goes on. schools were even let out early today.

This is the whole stretch of road, I just personally enjoy the first 10km from Tungelsta. The first 10km has a lot more twisting roads, where as you can go a lot faster on the rest of the stretch.

on our favorite road many miles north of us, we like to take most of the corners at 50-70 lol

Not really. its not as straight as it looks. Its more of a set the cruse at 60 and just enjoy the view. I plan on making a time lapse of it and posting it next time I make the drive. Hopefully thursday or friday if its nice.

You can probably go a lot faster :P I just find straight-ish roads in the summer being mindless driving. Here's another video of the same road I have been talking about, but this one has my favorite stretch of road. And as you can see, even though this one has tighter turns, you can keep up one hell of a pace.

whats average time for a car in this class?

It varies depending on the driver is in and how much traffic they have to weave through, but on decent tires and with an average fuel load the times roughly break down like this:

Prototype -> Ligier-HPD = 1:42 (best lap 1:39.192); Corvette DP + Ford-Riley = 1:42-1:43 (best lap 1:40); Deltawing = 1:39-1:40 (only did 1 stint); BMW-Dinan-Riley = 1:46 (best lap 1:43); SMP Nissan = 1:42-1:43 (best lap 1:40); Mazda = 1:42-1:43 (best lap 1:40)

^ leader did 736 laps

GT-LM -> Corvette = 1:44-1:45 (best lap 1:44); Porsche = 1:44-1:46 (best lap 1:44); Ferrari = 1:45-1:46 (best lap 1:44); BMW = 1:44-1:46 (best lap 1:44); Ford = 1:44-1:45 (best lap 1:44)

^ leader did 722 laps

Prototype Challenge -> Oreca = 1:46-1:49 (best lap 1:42)

^ leader did 702 laps

GT-D -> Audi = 1:48-1:50 (best lap 1:47); Porsche = 1:47-1:49 (best lap 1:47); Dodge = 1:48-1:49 (best lap 1:47); Aston Martin = 1:48 (best lap 1:47); Lamborghini = 1:46-1:47 (best lap 1:45); Ferrari = 1:48-1:49 (best lap 1:47); BMW = 1:48-1:50 (best lap 1:48)

^ leader did 703 laps, Lamborghini had the BOP advantage hence consistently 1-2 seconds faster on average

Again traffic can add anywhere between 3-6 seconds per lap, not factoring in pit stops and tire/fuel strategies. The above data was based off live-timing I gathered during the race.

huh didn't realize pre 2001 E39 M5s came with a DSP sound system, with tinny 4 inch Nokia subs. i heard that they were absolute crap. then m-audio upgraded the subs to ginormous 10 inch subs and holy shit they actually look big.

10 inch subs are fucking massive. 6 or 8 inch subs are "average" size for factory stuff. I plan on putting an 8 inch JBL in my suburban when I get it.

ok then. but even the mazdaspeed protege came with a 10 inch sub, or i think 8, and i believe it's the only mazdaspeed model with a sub. so maybe i might keep the subs in the m5, provided it's an 01 model and up, so it will have the m-audio 10 inch subs.

Yeah it really depends on the demographic that will be buying the vehicle. The tahoes and burban trucks came with factory 8 inch sub, the xc70 my dad drives i think has a 6 inch in it, it really depends. The power going to a sub will also determine how it preforms, etc. above 12" generally mean something has been walled off.

but i don't understand why the m5, a normally refined luxury sedan, came with TWO 10 inch subs. i see no logic. but hey, if it means better sound quality, i'll take it.
