I cancelled my Floatplane membership.

NixieFreak

I am kind of unhappy with how little FP exclusive content is posted, and recently there were a lot of simultaneous releases I feel. For $2.99/month this is disappointing to me, and I do not see the gain. I understand that Linus and the others are busy, but is it too much to ask to have a FP exclusive vlog once a week as compared to once a month?

But I am curious, what do others think? Am I the only one? Or what is the main motivation for joining FP for you guys?

Cheers & happy holidays

Jens

I paid for Bronze to support LMG. Floatplane and early access were bonuses, so I don't really keep an eye on the release schedule or anything like that. I click into FP once a week. Watch a bunch of stuff sans commercials or toxic comments, then go on about my internetting.

Been trying to keep up with the BtS but I've been out of office so much it's been pretty tough.

Got something really cool coming later today tho. A little clip I shot while looking at Renault's autonomous car!

I would ofcourse like more FP exclusive vlogs and such, but I do enjoy the extra's if they are there and in the mean while support LMG, I think that's worth 3 bucks a month!
Certainly during the holidays I didn't expect a lot of FP exclusives because I noticed (and read a lot of comments of LMG employees) that LMG is very busy this time of year.

So I could see how you feel there isn't enough excluse content now, but I would guess that once the holiday season is over there will be more of that (at least I can only hope)

You can get a Netflix account for around twice as much. That´s no excuse

for me subbing to floatplane is less of me expecting daily exclusive content and more of me wanting to support LTT with my cold hard cash. the early/exclusive content is just a nice plus

I think, and hope that's the way it is intended to be used too.

It's not as much about subscribing to a content provider like Netflix, as it is giving a donation to LTT, and getting some extra perks like downloadable videos in return (although you can do that on youtube too).

I'd say that Linus putting content behind a paywall would be a bad move, and a slap in the face of his non-paying viewers.

I thought about getting it, but I do don't really see the value add because I only like a handful of the videos they put out.

I wouldn't mind supporting them, but I'd rather do it with a forum badge of some sort, and not at $5/month.

This is why I dislike early access platforms: Nothing to do with the creators but the users of it always become extremely entitled to their VIP, early videos. And this is absolutely something that can be seen from miles away and will become increasingly difficult to manage unreasonable expectations from said paid users: "Hey come on I AM giving you all of 3 bucks per month! DANCE MONKEY! FASTER!"

Ugh.

I looked at it today and noticed the $30 year option is gone, i hate monthly subscriptions/bills. I would love to support them but with the $30 gone I'll take the delayed free with ads option.

For $5 a month or $50, you get less "psychological" value than the 10 and 25 donors because both have their own forum, while they claim nothing special goes on, the fact they have their own forums leaves the ominous feeling of uncertainty within for Bronze, Silver, and even non-supporters tho we dont matter much (but we do if they want us to upgrade next to being generous :P). However the switch side is if they do nothing for Gold, Gold users could have a feeling of emptiness which leads to loss of members, same with Silver. Gold's the worst as they have to pay out 5 times more compared to Bronze.

A tier system like this really has no business being here in its current state, having payment options with different amounts but unless real perks are outlined they should all be given the same thing, including one forum, keep the tier badges but imo merge the forums and leave it as one place for all donors/supporters.

To bring value into the tier system one could set up a raffle where 3 prizes with x amount of money for each prize or converting it into membership, with each type of membership given x number of entries, like for Bronze 1 Silver 2 Gold 5.

For FP I would love to pay for it but as stated above I refuse to pay a monthly subscription, it's annoying and if not automatic to pay it could waste half the time it took to type all this, if automatic you rely on said service to not mess up which can happen (it did when i donated to wikipedia for about a year at $3). The other issue I have for FP is you pay $3 for every channel you want, like cable, I hate cable, if they offered a complete FP package or bundled one for a flat fee then i might be interested. I would only use FP for LTT on a yearly subscription with current 1 week no real special stuff. If they where to convince someone like Disney or a (or bunch of) high profile youtuber to use their platform for $3 or even $5 I'd pay for that too, so far they have 2 creators.

What i mean by bundled is if 2 creators you wanted to support where $3 a month but put both together you get both for $5, or yearly for $55, more incentive. I'll but LTT FP if the $30 comes back. I'm not paying $50 to feel inferior to those who are willing to pay more, by given the lack of extra forums regardless if they contain no extra content.

I think Linus needs to study sociology a little to become a better businessman ;) You segregate your clients w/o real perks you're asking for a rift, your shop codes are also useless, as nothing's in shop or if they are good on 3rd party you dont state so, plus % not given which is a huge decision factor along with content on site and in store. Linus has 35 Gold 54 Silver and 228 Bronze, I would love to hear from either Gold/Silver to see if there's actually any real benefit between the 3, next to the feeling of being superior based on money given.

they 30$ a year option is gone is because for official launch they are working on a more flushed out billing plan. I know this doesnt solve your problem, i just hope it explains why

I know why they did it, they said they would, but even if it's like my server where i can pay the full year at full price it's a better option than "monthly" unless they plan on jacking the price greatly... Which definitely won't fly with a lot of people. Plus it's still cheaper and seemingly more meaningful than Bronze :P

When I joined FP, I didn't do it for the exclusive content. I didn't even do it for the early access. I did it because I wanted to support LMG in all they do.

Yeah but economies of scale dude.

You can't expect something equivalent or even close to half of Netflix from a small company, it's been sold based on no false promises.

Either way, you've got to admit this is 10x better than the old Vessel system which ended up with some videos being months old (and thus irrelevant) by the time it reached the paupers on YouTube.

Everything is basically on hold until the site launches at this point.

We are trying not to waste development cycles on a dead end when we have something much better that is so close.

Sorry for any inconvenience!

Thanks for all your feedback. I sure understand that it isn't always possible to have tons of vlogs every week, and I am sorry if I made it sound like I do expect that. I just enjoy seeing Linus and the others interact in these kind of formats, because it is just very interesting and entertaining.

I hope you all are having nice holidays and I wish you a happy new year!
