Skype dropping support for App Versions 7.17 to 7.30 on Windows Desktop

Earlier in February of this year, I reported on Skype discontinuing older app versions (7.0 to  7.16). Well it seems they're back it again.  App versions 7.17 to 7.30 will be discontinued on September 4th.

 

In the previous case, the stated reason was that the old apps were based off the P2P model and didn't work with Microsoft's Azure Supernodes system. There is no reason given for the drop of support for the newer apps.

So yeah, Skype hasn't made this information available on their website or anything so i don't know what's going on .....

 

I don't use the Classic Desktop Skype, I use Skype 11.19 on Windows Store.

 

People running these versions should update if they want to continue using Skype for Windows (Classic).

No. Skype is IM just how Discord is also IM.

 

Skype is trying to copy Snapchat so all the 12 year old kids will use Skype.

You need a newer device to use Skype now cos Skype is the Device Support police ....

I don't know why these things need to keep changing outside of security/performance updates.   I mean a message service is a message service how many different ways do you need to send a message or start a video/audio call?

Damn, I never liked the cool kids.  They always seemed like they were going nowhere fast.  Like a whole heap of shallow people staring at an oil painting pontificating about how it makes them feel.

Discord isn't hard to use, discord is hard to use if you make it hard to use. If you want to run a huge server, yes it can be hard to use to the inexperienced when it comes to bots and stuff but it is far better quality over Skype. With video chats slowly becoming a thing and screensharing being a thing soon, no reason to have skype except for the ignorant few who refuse to get off it.

Does it matter how little people are using it? To the people that do, it works and can easily be adapted. It's 1 more reason to uninstall Skype.

Took so  many years to get a gaming group I'm in to use anything but skype when we needed comms. Discord has been the only app to stick finally.

Not just for small groups I'm in, I frequently chat in servers with hundreds or even thousands of people in them.

Yup, I'm in GTA crew servers, Youtubers servers. At one point I was in over 100 servers at once and I started cutting down on them
